I work in a newsroom in Fredericksburg, and they heard on the police scanner that a person has been shot at a gas station at "Four Mile Fork" which is a neighborhood just south of the City of Fredericksburg.
No details yet, but I wanted to let y'all know -- and keep up the tradition of FReepers getting news first.
Pray for the victim, and pray that this is a random shooting, and that this monster's terror has not widened yet again.

With all this talk of a white van, all the shooter has to do now is wait until there's a white van driving by and then take out a target. Then he drives away in his blue car or whatever he has...

Speaking of taunting, the Exxon station was apparently across the street from a VA state police facility.

So it seems the shooter travels south for the weekend I hope that's not right! While everyone is concentrating on roads north, he/they could have slipped south. Not a comforting thought. Safe safe! And you might not want to drive your full tank to Michael's.

Oh good grief, I got it wrong. LOL. Thanks for the accurate info. :)

Do you know if the cops ever work the area right around the scene immediately after the shooting? I'm wondering if the guy is hidden--maybe shooting from a rooftop, tree, etc. and just stays put until the police leave the scene.

You can bet the Police are tensed up with all this and when tense a lot of them will be useing some pretty morbid humor.
It can make an unacceptable situation bearable and helps many to laugh off terrible things and keep their sanity reasonably well intact.
Some folks think mourning all situations is the only acceptable response to bad things in life.

I really appreciate how you kept us updated and informed even before the Cable News had the details.
Freepers like you are what make FR such a great place for breaking news, and a place to vent and *think* aloud with other concerned Americans....
Whats in your backyard is affecting all of us too...
Still praying today he (they) are caught or excellent leads are in so that it's over soon.
To: aristeides
They did, just a few minutes past noon.
You can bet the rent, sniper guy will probably change vehicles or change speed up his exit next time so to avoid any LEO funnels or road blocks. He will be wise to this tactic now...

Looks like they didn't get him today.......Somebody must know something out there, must know this guy or have seen a neighbor acting strangely. We can only hope anyway.

I turned this over to the police and now it's gone. Took less than 10 hours! I don't understand what you're saying here. Could you restate your final sentences please?
To: seamus
Boy you get complacent for a couple minutes and come to one of these threads late and you're really missing out!

I hate those sniper camouflage hats.

The onsite TV reporter says this is a very commercialized area, there is some wooded area behind the Denny's, but it would be a long shot thru traffic. There are also some long trees near the Ramada, much closer to the gas station. Not finding a shell casing leads him to believe the shooter is shooting from a vehicle.
He is speculating the shooter could have been on a balcony at the Ramada Inn.

A smaller, and I believe darker, car was seen after the Fredericksberg shooting last week. You may be right.

I agree that this is most likely set up by the sniper to wait on a white van to drive by before shooting. And we know he watches the news and is hearing that they are closing down the major thoroughfares after a shooting has happened. So, he purposely picks a spot near a major thoroughfare, makes his move, then calmly makes his getaway in another vehicle in the OPPOSITE direction from the exits. This sniper is smart.

Try post #366 for one of the earliest ones. LOL

They should have called the Guard after the first two shootings. I was told to take a pill. The National Guard is our homeland security. Shouldn't people call their Governors to demand Guard Protection and involvement?
It won't help the deceased but it may prevent future victims from lives ruined and lost.

The police have covered up license plates of 7 or 8 vehicles at the crime scene. This could mean there's a number of witnesses.
