NEWSFLASH: Another shooting, approx. 9 AM, this time near Fredericksburg
The Free Lance-Star ^ | now | Jim Lakely

Posted on 10/11/2002 6:54:58 AM PDT by seamus

I work in a newsroom in Fredericksburg, and they heard on the police scanner that a person has been shot at a gas station at "Four Mile Fork" which is a neighborhood just south of the City of Fredericksburg.

No details yet, but I wanted to let y'all know -- and keep up the tradition of FReepers getting news first.

Pray for the victim, and pray that this is a random shooting, and that this monster's terror has not widened yet again.

re: Savage Tactical 10FP....

...And it's on sale!!

Needless to say, it'll probably go up in price once Sarah Brady and her gang figure out that one doesn't need a "militaristic" assault weapon to "snipe"...

Interesting that this happened soon after the new AQ tape releases and after the Buffalo cell busts...

It happened even closer to the Oregon cell bust. And since the snipers appears to personalizing this with Moose, youhave to wonder if Moose didn't help bust the Oregon cell.

As this is totally disruptive and violent, the size of a grid shouldn't be of concern. They must establish a grid and start policing it. Think of it as a war. That's what it is at this point. If they don't think outside the box, more people will die.

I think we will find the perpetrator is a young guy who regularly plays airsoft games. Airsoft games are realistic military firearms and the games involve military scenarios. The owner of the gun has probably got his experience through years of practice. Here is a post from an airsoft site:

Airsoft Sniping Tips

A lot of airsoft players might be interested in sniping, but what all does that involve? Use this handy guide to get you on your way.

1. You must have the proper gun. Unless your gun has a velocity high enough to actually reverse time and arrive at the target before you even shot the gun, it is firing too slow.

2. Ghillie suits are vital. For a proper ghillie suit, assemble a suit of chickenwire, and cover with strips of newpaper from your basement. The older the newspaper, the more 'leet' the suit is.

3. Any good sniper has a spotter. Your spotter should have a normal gun, a keen eye, and frontal lobotomy, to make sure they always do exactly what you say.

4. Watch the movie 'Sniper.' Then watch it again.

5. For a backup weapon, you should have something light, mobile, and able to get you out of a jam. It shoud be easily carried on your person, such as a TOP M60 E3 Long.

6. Because no one will ever know you are a sniper, make sure your call-sign makes that fact known. We suggest names like "ImaSniper" or "OneShotOneKilla."

7. You should make sure your BBs are of the highest quality. Meticulously shape and sand down each BB by hand, to guarantee the precision sniping requires.

8. Once you have a ghillie suit, it is a good idea to add things to it from the local field at which you are playing so you blend in better. For a tactical edge, try using fake wildlife.

9. Sniping takes discipline. To practice, lay down in your backyard, aiming your gun at a target, and stay in that position for 120 straight hours. Remember, snipers dont have time to worry about hunger and fecal matter- stay focused.

10. A good sniper is always guaged by the length of the sunshade on their scope. Never forget this.

There was a story that was posted by a gentleman going by the name of HitmanMH that described two snipers, a deck of death tarot cards and the words "NNNNOOOOOO Don't Kill Me!"

I turned this over to the police and now it's gone. Took less than 10 hours! Hope it helped.

"About damn time..."

Well, I disagree. You have to assume the FBI has been in on this very early. They just don't like to talk to the press.

To continue my own thought, kind of like a an arsonist who is also a fireman. He creates the scene of the crime and then participates in the excitement surrounding it.

For over a decade the Socialist Republic of Oregon passed a state law prohibiting drivers from filling their tanks at a service station.

I believe that it was put into effect during the severe recession/depression they had in the late 1980's early 1990's to create jobs for the less than room temp iqers.

On our vacation up on the Oregon Coast last month, we ran into a new wrinkle. We pulled into a service station to fill up the Bronco and unfill our bladders in Bandon, Oregon.

The guy asked for my credit card, and I replied fill it up first as we need to go the rest rooms and I will give you me credit card. When I got back two of them were standing looking at the Bronco and us with a real low iq look. I said how much do I owe you. They said that they had to use my credit first to pump gas.

I handed the card to him and he stuck into the slot in the pump and when the okay came he stuck the nozzle into the tank and started pumping it. It was all that my wife and I could do not break into total laughter.

On this trip up, most of the gas pumpers don't clean the windows nor check your oil/fluids. They just take your credit card and pump the gas. I have a combo lock on my gas tank cap, and now they will not even put the gas cap back on the tank if it has a combination.

Oregon is a lab of what can go wrong when the communists, socialists and Watermelon envirals are in charge with no sane adults. Their next goal is Health insurance like Great Britain and Canada for everyone in Oregon. This is inspite of a state that has the highest unemployment rate in the nation and is classified as being in a depression not a recession.

WOW Pete. You predicted this Urban terrorist would go to Fredricksburg next. Would you please tell me your theory on these shootings, again? Please? Man, FReepers rule. :)

Actually, I speculated it would be Frederick, Maryland up 270.

Oddly enough, this morning, I was putting together further speculation when the story broke. I was writing a post that said I thought the shooter would return to one of the scenes of a prior shooting to taunt police. Frederickburg was on the list.

I haven't had an opportunity to try the other method. I have to get out to take off my gas cap anyway so, it wouldn't help would it?

I do this - especially if it is cold or rainy.

Just put hose in place quickly, latch, get back in the car and lower your head below window level and wait.

Then I would get out of car stooping to keep the car between me and the view of a sniper and remove the hose, forget about a receipt and get in and drive off. Can be done and I would sure not want to stand their with a gas hose by a gas tank with a shooter watching.

Another thing - if you have the option for a "Speed Pass" where you just run the key over the image on the pump - use that.

What happens if he just puts a bullet through the gas pump?

"Sources with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and firearms told News4 it is likely a Colt AR15, much like this M-16, or a Ruger Mini 14. Does anyone know if these all use the same ammo?"

To answer your question, YES, they all use the same .223 or NATO 5.56 ammunition. The AR15 is the civilian, semi-auto only version of our military firearm, commonly called the M-16. The Mini 14 is a different gun entirely, but fires the same round. There are many manufacturers of AR15 clones, besides Colt.

Yes, and the AR does not have to be a Colt

Could, or would there be any reason to use more than one of these

Two possible reasons for using a rifle of the Colt Stoner AR15/M16 design might be that the AR15 rifle design allows the rifle to be disassembled by simply pressing two pins attatching the receiver/barrel assembly to the lower trigger housing/stock assembly, allowing for easy maintenance and a reduction in overall length by approximately one-half. Since any telescopic sight or other optical sighting equipment remains mounted to the upper receiver/barrel unit, there is no loss of sight zero requiring readjustment of the sights after reassembly.

That design feature also allows a lower trigger group with a target or match trigger assembly to be fitted with various different upper receiver/barrel configurations, ranging from different calibers, silenced barrel versions, and many different barrel length/sighting configurations. I expect it's unlikely that a sniper or sniper team is swapping AR15 upper receivers between engagements, but it's possible.
