NEWSFLASH: Another shooting, approx. 9 AM, this time near Fredericksburg
The Free Lance-Star ^ | now | Jim Lakely

Posted on 10/11/2002 6:54:58 AM PDT by seamus

I work in a newsroom in Fredericksburg, and they heard on the police scanner that a person has been shot at a gas station at "Four Mile Fork" which is a neighborhood just south of the City of Fredericksburg.

No details yet, but I wanted to let y'all know -- and keep up the tradition of FReepers getting news first.

Pray for the victim, and pray that this is a random shooting, and that this monster's terror has not widened yet again.

a no self-pump state" I had no idea there was such a thing.

Here in NJ. And, it's the one gov't regulation you won't hear me complaining about. We always fill the tank in NJ (where we're treated to full-service and where the gas prices are lower) before driving into PA.

Fauquier Co. schools now on lockdown, and searches on I-95 south of Fredericksburg. Sounds as if they have no idea where the perps went.

Ah, so the police are keeping track of I-95 now--good for them.

Just something else to disrupt our daily lives and resources and spead fear. Prayers to the families for strength and comfort.
Amen

Maybe Geraldo should be chained to a gas pump for bait :)

This guy also wants attention. Most events this weekend will be canceled, but the biggest one, the N.O. @ Wash. NFL game will not be cancelled. I would expect him to strike there. The tighter the security, the bigger the challenge to this creep, and he might just take a stab at it(I avoided the word 'shot' for a reason)...JFK

What if the white van is a decoy, and the shooter is driving a darker, nondescript type vehicle.

That could be too. White vans are so common that no matter where you go, you will probably see at least one at some point if you go out.

It has been well over 2 hours... I am not confident they are going to catch the perp(s) today.

They may not catch him today, but it won't be from lack of effort.

Just occurred to me. Suppose the shooter sets up and waits for a "rabbit" in the form of a white van to arrive. As the driver of the van gets ready to leave, the shooter pulls the trigger...

Hey, could you weigh in on the latched-on gas-pump nozzles so you don't physically don't have to hold the nozzle to fill the tank? Seems everywhere I go the Florida stations don't have them . . .

Geraldo can be two hundred miles from the action and still have a bullet whiz by his head.

oops, sorry; didn't mean to inject any lightheartedness on this thread.

Don't worry, Kim, they probably got his name and address..

But I thought I heard FOX news say that the clue with the words Total Recall or Total access didn't amount to anything or pan out...whatever that means.

I still don't see the connection. If this sniper had only shot people at Exxon stations, then perhaps you could be onto something.

As an aside, it's now been two hours since the shooting. It seems as if the killer has escaped. There's no way he's sitting in traffic waiting for a roadblock. At the very least, he would have bailed from the vehicle on foot, and we don't have any reports of someone doing that.

Yes the anchors do sound frantic. I admit I have done some frantic typing myself. It's a mistake not to get swat teams and the national guard involved. They need to do the grid thing like when they search for kidnap victims with guard, swat teams hiding in bushes, etc.

HOW LONG WILL THE LIST GET BEFORE SOMEBODY RATCHETS UP THE SEARCH AND THE INVESTIGATION?

a white van pull away that "bumped" into other cars driving away

Sounds more and more like a diversion, doesn't it?

Sounds plausible. That way the police are always chasing the wrong bunny.

If that's his MO, the cops should start driving white vans past gas stations near highways.
