NEWSFLASH: Another shooting, approx. 9 AM, this time near Fredericksburg

I work in a newsroom in Fredericksburg, and they heard on the police scanner that a person has been shot at a gas station at "Four Mile Fork" which is a neighborhood just south of the City of Fredericksburg.

No details yet, but I wanted to let y'all know -- and keep up the tradition of FReepers getting news first.

Pray for the victim, and pray that this is a random shooting, and that this monster's terror has not widened yet again.

In theory, if I had to get out of that area, no way would I try to get away on US-1 or I-95. I'd try to get to 17 or 15, maybe cut back on 29 or 66.

If they don't get this scum, you folks in Manassas and Leesburg watch out later today. In fact, if you're in Fairfax, Montgomery or Loudoun, you'd best go fill up now... shooter can't physically make it there till about 11.

I’m starting to get a sneaky suspicion that the “white van” maybe a decoy. You know, let team 1 set up for the shot and a super clean team 2 goes and parks close by the victim. after the shot they just drive away ..reinforcing the clue that a white van is the perps auto... if their stopped they’re clean... In the mean time the shooter/shooting team gets away......

Only problem is that they can be watched and investigated, even if released. That could lead to the actual shooters. Maybe they (both teams) know this, and realize they'll eventually be caught. In that case they would likely be suicide shooters, killing until they are surrounded by police, at which point they kill themselves. The decoy strategy would be to prolong the chase, resulting in more deaths and terror.

Of course, this is all idle speculation. I really have no opinion one way or another on whether it is terrorists or not.

That's what one police dept. uses for their 10-80. On WTOP, one report said the van sighted was fishtailing (my word, not theirs) and hitting other vehicles.

Or, maybe the shooter was never in a white van to begin with, but once this idea became public, he waited until a white van was in the area before shooting (then he drives away in his red Mustang or whatever).

Thanks for the correction, Montgomery County, MD. The shooter did not branch out to Virginia until Chief Moose said they were doing a geographic profile on him. That's why I assume he lives in Montgomery County, MD.
