Could or would there be any reason for using more than one.
Are they comprable for distance?
I'm not skilled enough with rifles to notice a difference. The Mini-14 is said to be less reliable and accurate than the AR-15 type rifle. Mini-14s are relatively cheap, while ARs can be had for several hundred dollars and up. M-16s are ungodly expensive and require a Federal license to own legally. Even then, some states (like mine, Michigan) have banned civilian ownership of what's known as "Class III" arms whether or not one has the Federal license.
Care to comment, Shooter?

I don't know if somebody already posted this but, the killings that have occoured have happened at Shell and Exxon/Mobil stations (I believe). Well it just so happens there is a list going around the net of which gas station get there oil from the middle east, and shell and Exxon/Mobil just happen to be on that list of companies that get their oil from.

There's speculation about the shootings being done in a spiral shape. They just might be so I'd like to look at one of the graphics.
But, I can't find the graphics thread. You got a flashlight? lol

Arm all of the citizens and wait for him/her to make a mistakeAnd have the armed citizens keep an eye on gas stations. I think the sniper is deliberately trying to keep people away from stations in the DC area, so the stations can more easily be blown up by accomplices.
The non-gas-station shootings are to throw us off the trail and for general terror inducement.

The price of a Mini-14 is a couple of hundred dollars less than a AR-15. 600 plus dollars for the Mini and 800 dollars plus for the AR. A lot of people follow the ABC's for AR's. First in quality is the Armalite, then Bushmaster and then the Colt. Colt uppers are not compatable with the others because of the pin sizes.
The AR's upper receivers can be switched out for different uses be it competition, varmint hunting or short range IPSC style shooting. They're incredibly accurate and reliable. Forget about the thirty year old criticism.
Mini-14 are reliable but if someone over-torques the screws on the gas block, the groups can open up to a whopping 8 inches at 50 yards. Also, since the barrel or the gas block isn't attached to the stock in any fashion, the impact area starts to drift after the barrel heats up after five rounds or so. They are a fun spray and pray gun. Good magazines are a must.
I'm not going to believe that a one shot killer went to the trouble to have a semi-auto until someone proves it to me.

I think the sniper is deliberately trying to keep people away from [gas] stationsMaybe it's someone protesting the use of fossil fuels. This could be some whacko eco terrorist. their propaganda clearly states they think they're at war and some advocates violence.
To: TShaunK
Memory says not Shell but Sunoco. Off the subject directly, but when will a tort lawyer sue Sunoco and Exxon on behalf of the victims ala suing American and United for Sept 11?

Maybe it's someone protesting the use of fossil fuels. This could be some whacko eco terrorist. their propaganda clearly states they think they're at war and some advocates violence. Doesn't really make sense. One victim was a 13 year old boy on his way to school. Another was an elderly man sitting on a park bench. Another was a woman in front of the Post Office. Another was a woman leaving Michael's.
This is the 4th at a gas station. I think the gas station figures in because the victim is standing still while pumping gas.

I'm confused. Wasn't the death penalty just ruled to be unconstitutional by the USSC, or was that by a state court?
To: ET(end tyranny)
Yeah, I know it doesn't fit. It was tongue-in-cheek. I guess I should have been more explicit about the sarcasm.
To: MichiganConservative
As an observation... the stock market has gone up the last two days.
IF... IF the shooter(s) motive was to damage the economy, then I would guess they may be disappointed thus far.
But, I doubt that the economy is the motive.

Rain may have helped the sniper, by keeping choppers from flying.

Believe it or not (I'm sorry I am coming in late at night) under the current Matyland death penalty law this scum would not "qualify." He (she) could not be executed under state law if arrested. Local state police are privately saying they will fire one warning shot into his chest before asking him to surrender.

Map Quest shows the route between St. Michaels, MD and the DC loop goes right by Bowie, MD. St. Michaels means something.

Living in VA, on one hand I am getting tired of people calling me to see if I am o.k. [VA is a big state]. I am glad that they care though.
On the other hand, when I stop to get gas I am very cautious, watching in every direction.

Anyone recall the scene from the movie "THE JERK" [A sniper keeps missing Navin and hitting cans of motor oil.]
Navin R. Johnson: He hates these cans! Stay away from the cans! It's a funny movie but not so funny scene now.
