Lib Convert Caller to Rush Limbaugh Show Sheds Light (Bush vs Clinton)
Rush Limbaugh Radio Program

A caller to the Rush Limbaugh show who described himself as a lifetime partisan democrat has been turned from the darkside. During the course of the call, Rush grilled the guy, asking what made him change his mind. The caller first pointed out that Al Gore was committing fraud in Florida. Rush pushed him as to why this matters, he said the law. Rush then kept pressing him on Clinton. After all, if this guy is concerned about the law, certainly Clinton should have bothered him more than Gore.
At that point, the guy got very defensive. It was as if he was right back on the darkside as a useful idiot. He said he thought it was just politics. He thought the republicans were trying to shut down government. He thought the charges against Clinton were purely political. This shift from fresh new republican to die hard liberal democrat was instantaneous at the mention of Clinton's name. He made a few more excuses and basically evaded Rush's onslaught of questions until the conversation shifted.
At some point in the conversation, (Rush was really shooting questions at this guy so it shifted to and fro), the guy blurts out 911. Bush showed strong leadership after 911, to paraphrase, I believe the guy said "He became a president" (whatever the heck that means). At this point, it hit me like a baseball between the eyes. Proper analysis of this caller can get the republicans a few extra percentage points and start to take back our country.
Here's a few points:
- This caller was still acting like a liberal even if his philosophy had shifted to the right. He did not use logic or reason in his defense of his position. He did not base his politics on a set of core principals. It was basically a feeling. He FEELS that Bush is a strong leader and that has warmed him over.
- Attacking Clinton caused an immediate reaction and near instantaneous reversion to liberal mode.
- Bush's leadership and personality has a positive effect even on the opposition.
- The democrat's reaction to 911 has harmed them while the Bush's reaction has helped us tremendously.
OK, now a lot of this stuff may seem obvious, but there are never ending posts shouting about Clinton. Also conservatives rely too much on facts and logic. They don't work on democrats nearly as well as feelings. So, rather than saying "If Bill Clinton had accepted Sudan's offer to turn over OBL, 911 probably never would have happened." One might say something along the lines of, "Don't you feel that Bush's actions since 911 have made the country more safe."

Let's take back the Senate! When you talk to democrats keep this caller in mind. Don't even bring up Clinton. It's hard for some people not to, but just keep the focus on Bush and his positive image.

You've done a great service here!
Missed bits and pieces of this so it was good to find your summary. There IS hope!!

Also conservatives rely too much on facts and logic. They don't work on democrats nearly as well as feelings. This is a critical point. Democrats as a group are more motivated by feelings than rational thought. Which is, of course, why advertising works.
The key thing to remember is that those who are motivated by feelings are probably 80% or so of the population. Again, this is why advertising works. So, when communicating to democrats, it is better to focus on the emotional level. Which is why they loved (and still love) Clinton. Clinton is a Master at emotional manipulation. To those who are susceptible to that, they will always think he is great. To those who are motivated by rational thought, logic, law and precident - they see through him. But those are a minority of the population.
I would suggest some great emotional motivators to use on democrats, but cannot. That is my weakest area. Maybe some other folks on this board could come up with some good ideas.

Thanks, another point I didn't stress much was the law angle. I think it's ok to bring up the issue if you avoid bringing up Clinton. Like, "It just seems like the democrats keep getting away with breaking the law..."

Could this be part of the reason that President Bush, has not pursued the allegations against the toon.
Remember when everyone was calling for X42 to be prosecuted and sent to Jail,
Bush turned the focus to what he was doing not the past.
Great analysis of the entire picture. Makes alot of sense now.

The KNEE JERK defense of Clinton by liberals is pure and simple human nature... they were wrong, they know they were wrong, he scammed them, he played them like cheap fiddles. No one wants to admit, particularly on a matter so near to them as who they believe in politically, that they were wrong and duped, its just human nature. More often than not when a major mistake is made by a person, they are far more apt to defend that mistake, than simply admit they were wrong, because generally they just can't face the fact that all those around them telling them so were right... could they have possibly blown it so bad?... its hard to admit it, and most people will go out of their way than face reality of being so abjectively wrong.

I heard that call as well and it boggles the mind. I think that the caller just can't admit that he was taken for a fool for all of the 8 years of Klinton's stained presidency. Sure, he can displace his anger on Algore and the democrat party as they continue their lawlessness, but to admit he poured all of his heart and FEELING into defending a scumbag, is still asking too much.

This "I think" vs. "I feel" distinction is critical. As for Clinton I think (yes I think) that so many don't want to "feel" that they were snookered by him so they defend him. Nobody wants to "feel" like a dumbass.

You know, you're right...using logic with these libs is worse than banging your head on bricks!
"Don't you feel Bush has done a great job"? LOL!
Just hope I can force the word past my lips! :)
Will be trying this ASAP!
They do get soooooooooo defensive about x42, so best to use the general term, "Corrupt Party" , er, Democrats....
To: thedugal
Sounds like a typical seminar caller. There's no conversion there, just a dem trying to pretend that dems are concerned about national security. Dems are frying in hot grease over Iraq, and this is an attempt to make dems sound rational.
Too late.

Liberals tend to be swayed by catch phrases more than logic. "it's all about sex/politics", "blood for oil", "choice". If you try to make them think about the logic behind the slogans, they fall apart. They can't really explain them. Liberals are not very smart people.

Some in the GOP started to use feelings and emotions with some success (e.g., Compassionate Conservatism). The GOP needs both approaches: Logic for the Thinking Voters and Feelings for the Emotional Voters.
Examples:
"Voting Republican will enhance your self esteem."
"You'll love voting Republican just before the midnight basketball game."

You know you do have a point there- we have to somethign to win over the lower half of the bell curve (if you catch my drift)
That is why Republicans should stand up like a MAN (even the wimmin) and TALK STRAIGHT like Donald Rumsfield !!!!!!
Geez why cant we get republicans who have a clue??? Look at the repub takeover in congress in 1994? They ran like conservatives!

It can't hurt to approach the coming mid-term elections as crucial to giving Bush the support he needs to defend US, contrasted with the divisiveness and poatponNIK approach of most democrat elected reps in House and Senate (postponing the forceful disarming of Saddam Insane is very dangerous to US).

About Clinton/Sudan. Maybe the Dimos would understand it better if you said it this way: "I feel so bad for those thousands of children who lost their mommies and daddies on 9/11. Why didn't we grab Bin Laden when we had the chance in 1998". It's important to leftists to feel like self-hating victims at all times. See, "we" didn't get Bin Laden when we had the chance so it's our fault that 9/11 happened. Maybe later, the leftists will fire up their few remaining brain cells and realize that Clinton was President in 1998.

"Feelings, whoa, whoa, whoa, feelings..."
AAARRRRRRGGGGHHHH!!! Well, the thinking vs. feelings argument has been a long-standing principle of the Limbaugh Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies.
OK, so this also explains alot of the quiet comments from dems that they were secretly glad Bush was President and not Algore after 9/11. I guess they felt that Algore wouldn't have been a strong enough leader.
It's infuriating. When the dirty work has to get done, it's OK to leave it to the Republicans.
Well, let's get busy!!!
