October 10, 2002 -- Cops were examining the Psycho Sniper's tarot death card with the mocking words, "Dear policeman, I am God" - amid fears the killer may have struck again last night.

Detectives from the sniper task force rushed to Manassas, Va., where a man was shot to death at a Sunoco station.

I think it's sort of silly to presume it's a deranged Viet Nam vet. I mean who hasn't seen Apocolypse Now? That crazy Cav Colonel was doing the same thing. Anybody who has ever even heard of this could've gleened this idea and decided to do it.

I say this tarot card and it's message are phony and designed to throw off the investigators. The shooter read some book that talked about this cheap stunt. Also it's happened in real life where a psycho-killer left a tarot card or referred to it in notes sent to police.

That's an interesting take... I was just speculating that the thing about not reporting the card to the media was an act of defiance by the police even though they feigned anger over the 'leak.'

On the grounds that the odds of 2 ordinary whacko men just happening to meet up and carrying on this well-planned, well-executed "rampage" without making any mistakes or decompensation would have to be extremely small.

I don't understand your comments about the tarot card, but I agree with you about the white truck/van. I find it highly improbable that the police wouldn't have it by now, since they've apparently stopped every one they've seen for the last few days.

The jihadists like to think they are killing the enemies of God (phrase appears on their videotapes and in their literature.) I think we can assume none of the sniper's victims are Moslems, or the media would have been quick to tell us.

By the way, there's a big Moslem presence in Montgomery and PG Counties. I have eaten in halal restaurants there.

CBS is reporting that, prior to 9/11, hijacker Hani Hanjour conducted reconnaissance flights with small planes rented from airports in the New York and Maryland areas.

I think it is very likely that the Maryland airport concerned is the airport in Bowie (where the hijackers were previously reported as having been active,) very near the school where the shooting was on Monday.

First, lets get this clear the chances taht this is a Vietnam vet are so slim as to be almost non existant. We are talking someone at least in their very late forties or fifties. I do have to disagree with Lt. Col North they do not have to be in their sixties. A 21 year old in 1973 would not be in his sixties today. A 19 year old in 1973 would not yet be 50.

The above said the tarot card seems like a misdirection ploy on the part of the sniper. As of yesterday afternoon the police departments were stating they had not yet completely associated the sniper witth the tarot card. This story seems like a reporter trying to push the PD into something. IMHO the reporters here may well feel they have to be the new Jimmy Breslin and gain some fame and fortune from being the reporter contacted by the killer. In short I do not yet wish to draw conclusions based on this unsubstantiated information. Stay well - Stay safe - Stay armed - Yorktown

I agree they seem incompetent but they'll eventually stumble onto it.

Fact of the matter is that the metro area police force has been soooo dumbed down in the last 20 years....well, you see it in action.

If they don't catch them in progress or have multiple eye witnesses, the chances of getting away with any crime in this area are quite good.
