Oprah has done what the networks denied President Bush. She has reached the American public with the case for war on Iraq, now rather than later. West Coasters..catch Oprah, your jaw will drop!

Yeah....all I did was castigate one of them who claimed they lost all respect for Oprah after one show. There's some jmouse007 posting some pro-Bush stuff though.

Oh, I wish that I hadn't turned it off. When it first came on, her guest was bashing Bush and then Oprah said something about we need to understand why they hate us, and so I thought that I was in for a two-fer (Bash America and Bush) so I changed the channel.

I am not surprised at all that she did this show. The people that complain about the "Oprahfication" of our country or talk about how liberal she is, really cannot be paying attention or watching her show. (Which is understandable, since why would you if you think she is such a liberal.) It is kind of like the people who claim Rush is evil - they don't really know what they are talking about.

I really don't know what Oprah's politics are, but she is always pretty good about presenting both sides (unlike the media in general). I know she has a lot of liberal friends, and I assume she leans towards Democrat, but she is not a left-wing nut.

She is all about personal responsibility; she had shows with a lot of criticism about Clinton when the Lewinsky thing happened; Dr. Phil is no liberal; she complains about taxes and the death tax; and she has featured a lot of Republicans and people from the military in her magazine and on her show since 9/11, including Condoleeza Rice. And I saw her interviews with both Gore and Bush. I did think she was a little harder on Bush, but I think it worked out well for him because he handled it so well. I think she was impressed with him also.

She has also had some shows which made me mad, and I don't watch those, but in general, I think she is very reasonable, and I am happy to hear she did this show.

I think she turned on the 'toon when she found out he was a rapist. She was raped as a young girl, by an uncle or cousin, I think. The fact that she had someone on the show today who testified about Sadaam paying people to rape dissidents - makes me more sure.

Yes, she was raped over several years by a close relative, I remember that. Starting at a young age. Then she got pregnant at the age of 14 due to that, and the baby lived only for 2 months. It's a wonder Oprah survived her early life.

I totally agree about your take on Oprah. I've never understood why so many people on the right are constantly disparaging the woman. I think you're right -- they've probably never watched her. Or if they have, it was years ago when the topics of her shows were cheap and tawdry, ala Sally Jesse or Ricki Lake. I happen to think Oprah elevates television by treating her viewers with respect. Agree with her or not, she's a very powerful and persuasive force in our society. The fact that she's seemingly onboard with the President is reason to cheer!

Condi did a sit down for Oprah's magazine last November. Apparently, the two of them hit it off real well. Last I heard, they have become very good friends.

I see the deft hand of Rice in this affair. Rice has probably had several casual conversations over the last months with Oprah and told her some of what was going on. Oprah might be returning a favor. It would seem to me strange, all of a sudden, for Oprah to do a pro-invasion show given her history of support for Democrats (although its never been all that militant, like Rosie for instance).

This has got to p/o the Left, and the Democrats, big time. The Goron had Oprah in his pocket in 2000. Oprah has apparently come to the same conclusion that I have: Condi is going places, and has probably decided to hitch her wagon to Condi's star.

I strongly suspect, and I do not believe this to have any bollocks quotient at all, that Winfrey would be a member of Rice's campaign team. I know this sounds nuts, but don't be surprised if something like this unfolds over the next several years.

Fascinating post, and I for one am very happy to hear this about Oprah. I admired her early on, then became disillusioned when she seemed to continue to support the 'toons, especially Hitlery. I will be very happy to see the day Condi can whup that 'toon woman.

IIRC, she was teaching at Stanford...getting elected to anything in Kalifornia would be near impossible for her...or it would require her to cave on so many other issues, it would destroy her prospects nationally.

That's the most likely route for her to the presidency, the vice-presidency. I don't see her taking time out to run for some senate office somewhere, especially as I read recently that only 2 senators in modern times have ever made it to the presidency; the more likely route is as governor, which she's not going to do either.

VP would be it for her.

And I expect her to be our first woman president! (Eat your heart out, hitlery.)
