You're right. Can't imagine the pressure the police are under. We've all been under pressure, but it doesn't generally involve the risk of losing your life, the risk of being blamed for someone else losing their life, and microphones being thrust in our faces by nameless/brainless twinkies who are looking for their own publicity. Don't know exactly what happened with MD's local Channel 9, but if they're like the other nutworks (read networks), they've been over the top of inflaming the public.

I watched one of the Son of Sam investigators on the tube last night. He said the difference between the two cases was that Berkowitz's murders were spread out over months--over a year, as I remember--and these murders have happened within days, if not hours.

He didn't mention it, but the Son of Sam case was solved because of tedious police work and lots of shoe leather--Berkowitz had gotten a parking ticket in an area near one of the murders and the job of one of the investigators was to check out all the people who'd gotten tickets. It's going to take one of those kind of breaks to solve the case.

The information about the Tarot card would likely have been leaked to a local reporter by one of the LEOs. He would probably be well advised to control his anger at the press and keep a tighter rein on his emotions. IMHO, he seems to be out of his league with this type of high profile case.

It is different from previous cases in that so many victims have been killed in so few days. Read in USA Today the difference between serial killers and spree killers is that serial killers target their victims and they have something in common - i.e., target all women, or all blonds, etc. Spree killers will kill anyone for the thrill. Guess that means this is either a thrill killer or somene with an agenda to send a message to America.

It's not a cross country spree, killing for the helluva it or a serial killer like Ted Bundy.

He may be trying to send a message like the Unabomber, but the message is only known to him, a product of his malevolently twisted mind.

Saw the Chief on GMA and he admitted it might be a LEO who leaked to the media, but asked the media to get confirmation before printing stuff. Think he's probably mad because it was one bit of info police were thinking of keeping back for when the kooks start coming out of the woodwork "confessing" to the crimes. But, you're right, it's generally insiders who leak this stuff. Don't know whether he's out of his league or not, perhaps just tired from working days and nights on a case with such high stakes.
