TRENTON -- Joseph Santiago used his power as superintendent of state police to order the confiscation of all potentially damaging state police investigative records on himself and his top staff, according to a New Jersey state police source.
Santiago, a former Newark police director, ordered originals -- and all copies -- of the state police investigative files hand delivered to him by Sept. 24, the source, who asked not to be identified, said.

Here's hoping that some key players in New Jersey's third-rate sh!t-hole government are going to start facing some scrutiny. This Santiago is quite a mutt -- his reputation preceded him, though his position as a McGreevey hack allowed him to sail through his confirmation hearings last year despite the fact that any kid with a background like his would have been disqualified from serving as a State Trooper.

Sounds like one of Bubba's Arkasas State Police.
"Gov. James E. McGreevey's appointment of Santiago generated controversy from the start because of Santiago's conviction for punching a prison guard in a dispute over a woman and his operation of an off-the-books security firm that failed to pay taxes in 1987 and 1988."

. . . off-the-books security firm . . . No, it actually sounds like one of those bands of thugs and off-duty cops from the 'hood that serves as an entourage to gangsta rappers.

Unbelievable. It's amazing what these bastards are getting away with at the state level nowadays. I live in Boston and you can't even get the city council to pay attention to what the mayor is doing. The state house is completely lacking in adult supervision. Natural byproduct of a virtual one party state.

Santiago was chosen as a payback to Newark's Mayor Sharpe James.....and was instrumental in some coersion tactics during the recent Newark Mayoral election............he's a perfect match to McGreevy.

Santiago, a former Newark police director
and his chief of staff, Capt. Rosanne Manghisi, the daughter of one of Santiago's former Newark commanders
Does anybody, besides me, watch The Shield?
Newark police make Vic and The Strike Team look like boy scouts.

There was no reason for McGreevey to thank Sharpe James -- 99% of the voters in Newark would have supported McGreevey even if he were a Supreme Wizard of the KKK.
McGreevey selected Santiago because Santiago's wife and McGreevey's "wife" are close friends.

More like James has something on McG. McG sent the troopers to Newark to ensure James' election over Booker.

Thanks for the ping. Maybe we should start a Santiago pool, and see who comes closest to the date he loses his job.
