How is he blocking a vote?

Politically, the longer this drags out in the Senate, the worse the repercussions for the Democrats. If they want to drag this out to the elections next month, it will give people more reason to vote the 'Rats out, and Republicans in.

First, I don't believe this "9000" phone call lie to begin with.
Second, talking to Byrd is like talking to a brick wall -- he won't change his mind. He lost it years ago.
Third, who cares what he thinks and does anyway? All he can do is stall and delay; he knows that he's going to lose this vote -- big time. He's just grandstanding for the TV cameras.
Fourth, if push comes to shove, let him blither on. He's making a fool of himself, his party, and the Senate. So what's to complain about with that?

It's always fun to ask his staff about his KKK affiliation, too.

Demoflops want desparately to change the subject from Iraq to the economy, and they are running out of time before the election.
Demoflops are desparate because polling data show they have lost the field of debate to the Republicans right now.
The only way for them to retake the field is to get Iraq off the discussion, and put the economy on.
The only problem with their plan is their own folks - they can't shut up Senator Byrd. The distinguished Senator is really distinguishing himself with members of his own party by keeping the Iraq discussion on the board longer and longer.
If Byrd wants to keep this up for awhile longer (a week to ten days is about my limit of tolleration), then fine. It will redound to the benefit of the pubbies in the election, and then Byrd won't matter quite so much.

Robert Byrd (D-WV) said his office has received over 9,000 phone calls supporting him
Hey grand puba that aint a very high percentage considering there are 300 MILLION PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY YOU DOLT thats like getting the support of the needle in the haystack
To: Brytani
Must be the same 9000 people Eric Roberts claims are in touch with phone calls to congress. The calls to congress are 150 against War authorization in Iraq for every one call supporting Bush according to Mr.Roberts.
On related topics, Mr.Roberts claims to be a member of an elite race of superior beings who's leader is on the Mother-Ship in constant communication with Barbara Streisand and Charles Manson.

Did anyone catch his rambling silly speech about "Paul Bunyen" and lilliputins tying him down with tiny cords? I guess the implication was suppose to be that this is what the Demoncrats intend to do to President Bush. Someone throw this old coot in an old folks home.

Dang- you'd think with all of the pro-terrorist Muslims in this country plus all of the Aryan Nation guys and the KKK members out there, Byrd would have way more than 9000 supporting him.

Byrd is a self-important, pompous arse given to grandiose ramblings on the Senate floor. He fancies himself the most knowledgeable senate historian and keeper of its institutional perogatives. He loves to hear himself speak in pretentious tones about ancient Greeks and Romans, and all manner of obscure things. Just about every speech on the floor that Byrd gives is a filibuster of sorts, because he drones on and on mostly about absolutely nothing. He is a giant in his own mind.
And never, ever forget that he was the one Dem who openly admitted on TV that Clinton had committed high crimes and misdemeanors. When asked why he wouldn't vote to convict the president if he believe Clinton guilty, Byrd gave one of his typically babbling non sequiturs. Some nonsense to the effect that while he thought the president was guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors, that wasn't sufficient to remove Clinton from office.

My e-mail to the Senator's office:
"I can't believe that the Grand Dragon of the Senate is throwing his support behind Iraq instead of the United States. Shame on the Democrat party."

Today on the Senate floor, Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) said his office has received over 9,000 phone calls supporting him in his actions to block a vote on the Iraq resolutionBet his old dog Billi voted on this one. It would take a dog to support ole money grabber Byrd.
I just drove through WestbygodVirginia, and there is a toll road going every direction, including up. Guess when WViginiers die and go up to heaven, Byrd will extract a toll from them before they leave.
