The board's brief report does not go into detail about the economic and national security impact of the shutdown,The real threat to economic stability and national security stems from our dependence on so much being imported through a handful of ports. Our Government should be encouraging domestic production of these goods, rather than implementing policies that drive business offshore.

This is a great issue to slam and corner the Democrats when discussing around the watercooler. The ILWA has been claiming that since it was a lockout by the evil port owners, all they want to do is get back to work. So now Bush is granting their wishes. Yet watch how the Dems howl about Bush being anti-union. Further, the Dems are crying about Bush not paying attention to the economy, and the media has been running stories of how the strike is impacting the economy and causing layoffs. So the Dems are once again arguing both sides of the issue, heads Bush loses, tails Bush loses.
Now point out how this is just another example of Dems being hypocrites and politicizing the issue. Note that it is just like what they did with Iraq, where they demanded that Bush consult with Congress, go to the UN, and provide more proof, and now that he has, they complain that he is dragging this out to politicize it. But instead it is the Dems who are politicizing both issues, playing either side of the coin.

I would prefer to keep the ports shut, and produce the goods that are imported from China in the USA instead.

Three Union guys go into a town noted for it's prostitution, and go a house of ill-repute. They ask the proprietor if the girls are union members. When the owner says no, they leave. They go to the next house on the strip and get the same answer. This is repeated several more times until they reach this run-down shack on the edge of town. The owner says all of his girls are card-carrying union members. "Great!" says one of the union guys, "I'll take that young one over there." "No can do", says the owner, "You get the seventy year old woman over there; she has seniority."
