Maryland Sniper Shootings Update Thread
CNN, Fox, Local Radio and Television | October 8, 2002 | CNN, Fox, Breaking News

Posted on 10/08/2002 3:36:37 AM PDT by Peach

It's 6:30 a.m. EST and we're waiting to go to the second press conference providing media and local updates on the Maryland sniper shootings. To date, the 13 year old boy has survived the evening and seems to be improving. Fox News mentioned that his aunt is a nurse. The police briefing at 6:15 a.m. mentioned Todd Beamer's Let's Roll comment and police are urging people to use caution, good judgment, but remain strong and try to continue with everyday life as much as possible.

Police had a search warrant last night (didn't say for who or where) related to the sniper shootings, but the search did not provide any information to LEO.

Chief Moose has been the only one, that I have seen, who has been gracious enough to thank the FBI Director and the Attorney General for their phone calls and pledges of cooperation. The democrat operatives...

Do you believe everything you hear on face value?

Duncan hired the moose because he was PC. Moose got a Ph.D., in 1999 with a doctoral thesis on the success of the Iris Project (this is the project that intervenes and substitutes for parents) He is about as left as a democrat can get and sounds like Clinton (he feels our pain and asks if we can feel his)

His press conferences are nothing but free face time, while he announces the time of the next conference, reports that they are making progress but the he will not even give us a clue about it, and practices a screen test for feeling pain.

The PG county conferences have been, informative, articulate and non-pretentious. Moose has dropped the "Again" preamble to most of his answers and replaced it with Sir, I am incapable... or whatever!

Ok, just for that I want you to list every 5.56MM round and their bullet weights for the poster.

Sheesh! I told you that was the short version.

And don't forget the cartridge for the grenade launcher.

5:30 is also a common time for dinner. Not as many witnesses?

The time line could provide some clues. According to some research I've done, trained terrorists who are on a mission are required, no matter what, to set aside 5 times a day for prayer. It would be interesting to find out if there are certain times of day and certain days that they conduct prayer.

Didn't I just read some place that it may have been Moose's calling the sniper a "coward" over the weekend that caused him to shoot the boy yesterday?

Here's a little known fact.
The police had the Michaels near the school staked out on Monday morning.

Now some conjecture.
The sniper saw the police when he drove to the Michaels, got really mad and drove off in a rage to seek another target. The school was a last minute choice, a target of opportunity, so to speak.
The sniper changed his MO at the school. He got out of the car and shot from the ground. He left a shell casing behind.

I still think he's preferable for TV appearances over a lot of the "theorists" here.

That means he was going to the Michaels in Bowie before 8 AM (presumably hours before the store opens). I wonder how long he would have had to wait for a target.

If what you say is true, I trust all the Michaels stores in the area are going to be under protection for a while.

He shot the man on the lawnmower at 7:41 AM. Either he was looking for a lone target or he was checking out the area early.

They said that 3 Michaels stores were staked out on Monday morning.

Well said, from someone who's debating skills consist of exaggerating his opponent's statements and then declining to respond, when called on it!

Like stopped at a traffic light?

Yep. Or a quick stop when there is no traffic. Or pulled over at the side of a road.

"This CANNOT be done from a moving vehicle." - walkingdead

"But they CAN be done from a vehicle. Just not one moving at the time of the shot." - ET(end tyranny)

I was trying to differentiate between being inside or outside of the stopped vehicle.

Had I not been sitting there in the passenger seat, I wouldn't have believed it.

Guess we figure its possible to have a stopped vehicle with the engine running! Did your jaw drop when he made the shot? *smile*

The vibrations from the engine running will significantly impair percision shooting.

Be more interesting IF the Michael stores are near churches too??? Still think the cemetery with the Cross has to do with his "playing G-d" and killing people at random...he was at THAT scene twice in Aspen Hill....

What if this guy works the night shift and/or weekends. That would fit the schedule too.

Maybe the shooter doesn't work.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Share with me where the second amendment even touches on the question of "printing" a bore or firing pin. You obviously have every right to object to this being done, but it ain't on the basis of the 2nd amendment.

I'd say it's implied. If there's a requirement that you must have your gun "printed" or inspected or whatever or else you can't own it, that's an infringement.

Moose Misses Cut For Job In DC ('The Oregonian' Doesn't Say Whether
The Inability Of Portland Police To Secure A Conviction Against The Son
Of Portland Police Chief Charles Moose After The Teen-Ager Was Caught
With Crack Cocaine Was A Factor In Moose Not Being Hired
As DC Police Chief)

The chief is eliminated as the finalists are pared,
and he will remain commander of the Portland
Police Bureau

By Maxine Bernstein and Michele Parente
of The Oregonian staff

Chief Charles A. Moose is out of the running for
the police chief's job in the nation's capital and
pledged Monday that he remains committed to
serving as commander of the Portland Police
Bureau.

"I learned several years ago you don't get
everything you want in life," Moose said. "But I
will continue to work hard here, and I'm very
satisfied here."

A private firm conducting the search for a new
chief in Washington, D.C., called Moose on
Saturday and told him that he was no longer being
considered.

Moose was selected last month as one of eight
semifinalists for the job from a field of more than
50 applicants. He was eliminated during the
weekend as Norman Roberts & Associates, a
search firm based in Los Angeles, and
Washington officials pared the pool to about five
finalists.

In a three-sentence memo he circulated to his
command staff, Moose said he was not
interviewed and was given no explanation of why
he did not make the final cut.

"It was a 30-second call," he said Monday. "They
gave me no reason, no rationale."

Moose, 44, is in his fifth year as Portland's police
chief. He said he applied for the Washington,
D.C., job because he thought he could bring
change in a troubled law-enforcement agency.
With that job out of his grasp, Moose said he
would not look to move elsewhere or apply for
other jobs.

"I hope not. I don't anticipate making a routine of
that," Moose said. "This was something that was
very special, and now that's over."

Asked whether he was concerned that his interest
in a higher-profile job could jeopardize his
effectiveness in Portland, Moose said he felt
comfortable that he had the support of Mayor
Vera Katz.

"I'm not concerned about that. Throughout this
whole process, I've been in discussions with the
mayor. She understands what my interests were
in Washington. What the rest of the city thinks
and feels may not be the same, but I'm
comfortable that my boss supports me."

Maybe the shooter doesn't work.

Retired - probably not, too old to start sniping.
Unemployed - perhaps, lots of free time.
Disabled - that could be why he shoots from a truck.
Independently wealthy and sniping for kicks, maybe.
On welfare, no, too much ambition.
