Ashleigh Banfield, Feminist Icon: "Couldn't DC Sniper Be A Woman?"
Posted on 10/08/2002 3:10:45 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest
Ashleigh Banfield, PC-feminist, avidly advanced the notion last night on her MSNBC show that the DC-area sniper could be a woman.
Ashleigh was interviewing a former FBI profiler, Greg McCrary. As an aside, I found McCrary to be the most informative and articulate of the TV experts I've seen to date on this issue.
In any case, Ashleigh, proudly dedicated to promoting a woman's right to choose any profession, even that of serial murderer, said a couple things that would be funny were it not for the tragic context.
First, in hypothesizing about the perpetrator, she referred to "the guy." Then, catching herself in what was, to her way of thinking, a horrible gaffe and affront to hard-working women mass murderers everywhere, Ashleigh added "or girl." That's right: "girl"!!
Later, once again seeking to break through that nasty glass ceiling that for so long has kept promising women serial killers down, she asked the profiler: "we know a .223 weapon has been used. Could this be a woman shooter?"
McCrary managed, barely, to keep a straight face. "Well, the odds say it's a man. But we can't exclude anyone." Sure.

she asked the profiler: "we know a .223 weapon has been used. Could this be a woman shooter?" Of course it could. It could also be a black man or black woman. The odds are against this, though. The vast majority of serial killers are white males.
BTW,WHY does everybody keep assuming this is a rifle being shot? Anybody ever heard of the Thompson Contenders,or the Remington bolt-action pistols? I used to have a .223 Contender with a 2x Bushnell pistol scope, and it was no trouble at all to hit bricks at 100 yards.

It said that the shooter was most likely male because the shooter was obviously a "Sharpshooter" and women don't tend to be sharpshooters. ROFLMAO! The women I have taught to shoot have been the best students, and there is no shortage of women world-class shooters.

Theoretically the sniper could probably even be a bird-brained newsbabe. Impossible. The sniper hasn't shot himself/herself/itself(hey,the shooter COULD be a transexual!) in the foot yet.

Ashleigh also ended a sentence with "at" yesterday. Drives me nutz.

The TC could be used, but if you assume this to be the work of a terrorist team (IMO), it would make more sense for it to be a AR-15. Such a team would want the firepower if they got into a confrontation with LEO. Much the same way that sniper teams have a shooter on a bolt gun and a spotter with a M16 or M14 for backup if they get closed in on.

the last woman executed in Florida was a slave girl named Celia, who was hanged in 1848 for beating her master to death. This can't possibly be true. We all KNOW that blacks were always hanged for no reason at all, other than the color of their skin.

You wish!

While I wouldn't be totally shocked if this killer turns out to be a woman, I would be more surprised if it was.I'd say the killing of a random child also makes it less likely that a woman did it.

I don't know if it was a joke. What happened to the pic? It's not on the thread anymore...

women don't tend to be sharpshooters. I don't think men tend to be serial killers. There's an undistributed middle in this woodpile.

Which picture is that? The ones of Annie Oakley and Ann Coulter are still there.

Statistically women kill more children then men do, just the children killed happen to be their own. I say it's a man simply based on the odd's here. While it's possible this is a female, high odd's say it's a man.

I was refering to Wuornos when I mentioned the female serial killer about to be executed but I do take exception to your comment that she knew her victims. While they were her johns (or so she claims) it wasn't the case where she had long term client contact with them. These men were mostly picked up along I-75 in Florida and were murdered. No difference really then male serial killes who have targeted female prostitutes (Green River Killer comes to mind).

The ratio of female killers of any category to male killers is very low. Yet some females do kill. Is it likely that the shooter is a female? No. But is it possible. Yes. Still, I have been amused the last few days watching the reporterettes on MSNBC and CNN doing their "he or she" thing while discussing this case.

Wuornos is a Lesbian; the dyke in her "relationship." So maybe she only counts as half a female in the serial killer stats?!

Agreed. Her victims were not totally unknown to her, in the way that the DC sniper's victims are, but it's true that she had only the most fleeting of contact with them. Her MO was kind of the mirror image to the many cases of men killing prostitutes that they pick up.

Maybe, she watched "La Femme Nikita" or "Shiri" a few times too many, I guess.
Would a woman kill an innocent, unarmed little child?
Anybody know where gloria steinhem has been hanging out recently?
on a side note... wouldn't a female tend to prefer a .223 to a hunting rifle? just wondering. some of the jihadis women are a little gamey to begin with... and I suspect they might do something like this if they KNEW their husband was being held in gitmo.
I doubt its a woman. for the record. but it is an interesting question.

I suspect a HAMAS member rather than al qaida...
They are calling for similar attacks on innocents here in the USA as they have been carrying on in Israel for the last few years...
Of course, all the arab terroristas are related. But the hamas and hezbollah are at the top of my list RIGHT after al qaida.
To: governsleastgovernsbest
Unless the USSC steps in and stops her execution, she's going to be put to death as she should be. I don't believe in not executing women just because they are women.
