Parents are going to start keeping kids out of school now. My one friend is afraid to go out now and she live in the Baltimore suburbs. This is terrorism pure and simple even if its not the work of Muslims.

We just got word that all youth sports practices and games have been canceled until further notice. We are in Alexandria, VA, well away from any of the shootings, but authorities are taking no chances with the kids!

It will be interesting to see how this falls out.....
white supremecist.....not likely
Someone who wants to be caught (psycho, just wants to see what it is like to kill someone).....possible but not likely
but one thing is for sure it is terrorism.....

Agreed. The shooter is going after every possible demographic target- the elderly, women, children... whoever this is, they have struck a nerve of fear in that region of the country. Wouldn't surprise me if this sick bastard took aim on someone in a wheelchair, or even a dog.
You know, in some ways, it almost seems as if the variety of targets is almost too deliberate... Hmmm...

Why would a white supremacist shoot other whites?

That trauma surgery team at Children's Hospital in DC are showing their expertise and skill!
Congratulations to the doctors and team out there!
Let's pray that this little innocent kid does well!

Now you're bringing logic into play - something the liberal media (who have told us this is a white male) know nothing about.

What's curious is that the authorities have seemingly made a conscious decision not to broadcast any sort of physical description of anyone unusual spotted in the areas around these shootings.
Either way, it leads me to think this is international terrorism. Either this person is so well trained as to be able to fire a round and get away without being spotted, or a suspect has been spotted, and the police don't want to broadcast the description for fear of starting a panic in the region. (BOLO for a middle eastern man...)

So far the shooter has picked on one group of people.
AMERICANS
Who would do such a thing?

Why aren't they releasing any information about the victim? His name, his aunt's name, anything but his age?

I know that they say it is a .223 weapon - but I'd be more willing to bet on a 5.45x39 round from the sounds of the wounds this boy received. Although the .223 does begin to tumble rapidly using the older 55 grain projectiles and longer twist barrels (1x10, 1x12), most of today's .223 weapons are rifled more for the 62 grain bullet and have a twist of 1x7 or 1x8. This faster twist stabilizes the round for distance shooting, while at the same time reduces tumbling inside the target.
The 5.45 round is specifically designed to tumble inside a human through the use of what is essentially a covered hollow point in front of the solid core. The intense tissue shock caused by these rounds allows someone to kill their target by hitting them nearly anywhere - if it hits bone it's going to run along it. After all, this projectile is designed for combat by the Russians - during their Afghanistan experience - when it was considered a good thing to be able to shoot someone let's say in the thigh and have the round exit at their collar bone.

Because they don't have one that's worth anything.

my point exactly.....possible but not probable.
I don't think it's an insane person either....they tend to just walk around and shoot things up. this guy has got his act together in his operation with the possible loss of the shaell casing. If it was even his.

"All of our victims have been innocent and defenseless, but now we're stepping over the line," Montgomery County Police Chief Charles Moose said. "Shooting a kid -- it's getting to be really, really personal now." At one point, tears streamed down his face. Who made them defenseless? Could the tears be tears of guilt?

"
Shooting a kid -- it's getting to be really, really personal now." Hey it would be personal if it was me shot too! Don't all those others count?

The above report, however, has me confused. I thought it was not possible to live without a pancreas, and that the pancreas is one organ that is not yet transplantable. On the other hand, the report is not clear, because it could be read either than a portion of the pancreas was removed or that the entire pancreas was removed but it is possible to live without that organ. I don't know a great deal about this, but probably know more than the average Joe or Jane, because someone in my immediate family died of pancreatic cancer. Can any FReeper clarify the medical info in this report?

To protect both individuals, the authorities have not released the names of other of the two people (this boy and a woman late last week) who survived. However, information coming out of the authorities has been very sketchy, perhaps because they have little to go on in this case.
