Funny you mentioned this because I woman I know who is from Maryland said at breakfast this morning (in DC) that she thinks this is a terror attack. It would account for the individual being able to move about unnoticed.

Yes, all the shooter needs to do is wear a Saudi-style head dress and carry the Koran and he will be immune from suspicion and investigation.

Did a quick search over the weekend about sniper killlings in the Middle East region (Jerusalem, etc). Just a quick glance over the news reports showed that the sniper and/or snipers were positioned in buildings, as well as, in cars. Could the sniper(s) be positioned in buildings? Anyway, I believe it is a middle-eastern terror cell, with multiple snipers participating. One driver, one shooter.

That may be true in the Mideast but these US shootings apparently occurred in suburban, not urban, areas. The difference is in the building and population density. I would imagine that urban areas permit more and more different modes of escape, including foot. In the U.S. suburbs, foot traffic (for example) tends to attract attention since most folks drive, and staying in place (until the cops sweep the area) is generally not an option.

To me, it seems that the easiest way to get away with the shootings is if the perps had a small nondescript van and were *not* from the area. Were they from the area, neighbors might take notice of their lack of alibi for the time periods involved and report them to police. So planning for evading detection would involve travelling to the area from somewhere else so to reduce the chance that any locals would pick up on appearance or behavior pattern-violation type clues.

I have yet to see what I would consider to be a decent profile of the shooters, though I have not done a rigorous search.

Watching the news this weekend, there was coverage of one of the funerals. The attendees and family looked muslem (scarves, dress, skin tone).

A couple of ideas: are these attacks by Americans who want to take matters into their own hands. Could it be Muslems attacking their own to stir things up? Or could it be just random acts of terror?

The US government will balk at drawing any inferences to Israel's similar situation. For Chr*st sake we couldn't even categorize the attack on Israelis and Jews at the El Al ticket counter in Los Angeles (over 4th of July) as a terrorist incident even though the perp was an Arab and member of an extremist Muslim group.

The funeral you are referring to was for the cab driver who was INDIANS. As in from India. They are not muslim. As a matter of observation, I suggest they may have been christian based on the funeral and the facility the funeral was being held in.

I did read something about the Israelis going door to door, rooftop to rooftop. But as it was explained to me in a post here - and it makes sense-urban areas are denser in population, etc., as opposed to suburban areas. Additionally, it was pointed out that perhaps the shooters are not from the area so there is no accountability as to time and whereabouts.

This is not a usual pattern.

The perps are either terrorists or far-out nut cases.

The media and the police have really behaved badly in withholding any helpful descriptions or other information about these shootings. Do they still think it was a white van, for instance? Some stories mention a witness, other stories say there were no witnesses.

To begin with, what common characteristics, if any, do the victims share? Two of them seem to be Hispanic, and one of them from India. Were they distinctively foreign looking in some way? Are the other victims black or white? If they were all black the perpetrator could conceivably be a racist nut. If not, then most likely the perpetrator is a Muslim terrorist. What else would fit the bill? Even a whacko Satanist would normally pick women victims, or kids, or some other pattern.
