Look, if I'm close to a hospital, I am NOT waiting for a damn helicopter or an ambulance. Stomach wounds are DEADLY.

The mother did the right thing, unquestionably.

Time to hospital is the ONLY determinant of outcome after the fact. Heliocopters are good because they are FAST.

Not waiting for the chopper, if it is FASTER than waiting, is the right thing to do.

BTW, I am in DC with the kids today, of all days. Haven't been outside yet.

I think what I'd probably do if it was GODFORBID me on the scene, is start calling 911 as I drive my child. What a horrible story this is.

You're right, stomach wounds are deadly because of that giant vein that runs up the body. He had a chest wound too. How close was the hospital anyway?
