As far as we know - all the victims were shot in open areas - shopping center, woman sitting on bench in front of post office, man mowing lawn, man pumping gas at gas station, woman at gas station cleaning out car.

Well, they said one of the rounds was a .223 caliber. Not necessarily a weapon with great knock-down power.

Bingo. The day we first bombed Afghanistan. They like to pick special days to terrorize us. Tit for tat. October 7, 2002.

I guess we need Lee Harvey Oswald to answer that one.

They said they were going to go after the kids -- in schools and on playgrounds.

I wonder if one of the shots was meant for the mother, and the boy fell into the line of fire.

Distinct possibility.

I would think they would be too easy to catch if they were Muslims. It sounds like a serial killer.

but she should have had a cell phone and called 9-11 instead of using her car as an ambulance

With severe bleeding and no first aid kit, the kid would be dead on arrival of the ambulance. I hope she was able to get a bystander to go with her, to apply pressure while they went to the nearest hospital. Although that hospital was not a trauma center they could at least stabilize the patient.

Fox reporting that most of the victims have been shot during rush hour periods, which is one area that this school shooting fits the pattern.

Within a day or two. The NYC Brooklyn Bridge terrorist assault took place a year and a day after the first WTC bombing.

would the fact this kid was hit twice tend to rule out a bolt-action weapon, and point instead to at least semiauto ?

No reason to believe that as fact. A bolt action can easily be worked in less than a second then target reaquired and second shot off before victim hits the ground. This can even occur with ashot that destroys the heart of brain.

"I think she meant, because of the 2 shots instead of one and the fact that this time it is a child targeted and not an adult."

. . .my point is simply that targeting a child would in fact, 'fit' the 'random' pattern we have seen so far. . .and describing it otherwise seems more a denial than a recognition of the status of these killings.

. . .as for the second shot; well, the last victim did not die. . .

This may terrorize the DC area but it doesn't have a nationwide impact.

I resepctfully suggest that these shootings DO have a nationwide impact, even though most of us don't feel personally "at risk" at the moment. Do you feel a touch of what you felt on 9/11/2001? I do.

It's PG County! It's most likely retribution for a real or perceived incident of 'disrespect!!

BOWIE, Md. –– A 13-year-old boy was critically wounded Monday in a shooting outside a school, according Prince George's County emergency officials. There was no immediate word on whether the shooting was related to a series of sniper shootings last week.

The boy was wounded in the chest and abdomen outside Benjamin Tasker Middle School, said Mark Brady of the fire department.

The boy's mother took him in her car to Bowie Health Center, a small hospital. A Maryland State Police helicopter was to fly the child to a hospital specializing in traumatic injuries in children, Brady said.

"The child is suffering from extensive blood loss and is in critical condition," Brady said.

Child Shot In Front Of School In Maryland
Victim Taken To Hospital
A child has been shot in front of Benjamin Tasker Middle School in Maryland, according to Prince George's County, Md., fire and rescue officials.

According to police department spokesman Corp. Robert Clark, the call came in at 8:09 a.m. for a reported shooting in the 4900 block of Collington Road.

It is believed the 13-year-old boy was shot once in the upper body. Clark says the child may have been walking toward the school.

Fire department spokesman Mark Brady says the boy was wounded in the chest and abdomen.

The boy's mother brought him in her car to Bowie Health Center, a small hospital. A Maryland State Police helicopter was to fly the child to a hospital specializing in traumatic injuries in children, Brady said.

"The child is suffering from extensive blood loss and is in critical condition," Brady said.

Police say they'll release more details as soon as they have them.

That's my guess as well. I find it disheartening to say the least that the media rarely speculates that this could be the case. I don't buy the theory that they are trying to reduce panic because when children are targeted, panic in a given.

It would have been better to transport him by helicopter right from the scene. I feel so sorry for that mother, as she was forced to witness this and probably reacted in a state of panic. Although this will probably turn out to be related to the previous attacks, in Prince Georges County there is always the possibility that this was thug-related, even for a 13-year-old. We will know soon enough.

FoxNews is reporting that the boy was shot twice--chest and abdomen

That is different from the pattern of previous shootings.

Could be because the Fredricksburg, VA victim has survived so far. The dirt ball was cocky before and overated his marksmanship.
