GUILIANI REPORTEDLY A FINALIST FOR NOBEL PEACE PRIZE
New York One News ^ | 10/5/02

Posted on 10/05/2002 2:01:23 PM PDT by areafiftyone

Former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani is reportedly a finalist for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize.

The Daily News reported Saturday that the Nobel Committee has already voted on this year's recipient of the prestigious award, and Giuliani is said to be on the short list of potential winners. However, the former mayor hasn't been confirmed as a nominee.

According to the News, Giuliani, who was knighted by England’s Queen Elizabeth in a ceremony last year, was recommended for the $1 million prize because of his role in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terror attack.

George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair have also been nominated for the award, but some speculate they will not win in light of their campaign against Iraq.

If Rudy won, it would be well-deserved and wonderful, and in addition, Hillary would probably implode!! Can't you just see it? And Bubba's lower lip would be dragging the ground, oh my, oh my, if only!

Hey, Rudy did a great leadership job with NYC in the aftermath, but, explain to me the "Peace" angle to this. I really don't get it.

Yep... And Jimmy Carter too. He's been hot on the Nobel trail since being thrown out of office. If Rudy were to win that, I'd say he'd become a top contender for VP.

Karzi is a cowardly leader he has done nothing towards peace in his region. Without the U.S. stationed there protecting him there he would be hiding under his desk. Guiliani has proven his worth and kept New Yorkers calm thru the worst tragedy in our lives. I will never forget the speech he gave at the U.N. after Sept. 11th. He is not afraid of what they think (he never was anyway).

Umm, can someone tell me what Rudy did towards making/obtaining/promoting peace?

His reaction to Sept 11 was outstanding. He was a leader for his state when people were upset, frightened and grieving. He had to make all kinds of decisions about how to handle the aftermath of the attack, and he did that well.

But this isn't a good leader award.

Well if they can give it to a terrorist AraFART then you know the nobel prize has nothing to do with peace anymore.

Exactly. Now - if he had orchestrated an actual and notable peace effort, that would be different.

Explain how Arafat won the "peace" prize a few years back.

It was to reward him and Rabin for signing the Oslo accords. Did he deserve it? No. But at least there was a decent excuse. I like Rudy, but there isn't a damn thing he's done for or against peace, in even the greatest stretch of the imagination. Unless you count his cleaning up of 42nd Street.

"...who would YOU nominate?..."

For his stalwart defense, at the Hague Tribunal, of the fullness of individual human nature against the forces of the Contracted Soul---Slobodan Milosevic.

As far as I am concerned, the Nobel Peace Prize has been so rediculously politicized a long time ago that it is a total joke.

I just don't understand how anyone could say that Rudy deserves it. For what?

BTW, I'm still p'oed that he let Hillary become Senator by that bogus prostate cancer excuse.

Notice that he is still around and doing pretty good, isn't he? Kinda like my dad - 10 years after prostate cancer treatment.

Having said all that, I respect and complement him for his leadership for NYC and our country.

Bwahahahahahaha. I find it hopelessly ironic that the Cult of Milosevic, a hardline Communist, should be so strong on a supposedly conservative news forum. But some people are weird. When do we get to posthumously award Joseph Stalin the Presidential Medal of Freedom?

Don't be a piker.

Our government gave him far more than the "Medal of Freedom", at Yalta.
