The newly-arrived candidate can coast through without anyone to criticize (since the media will lie down for him as long as he is a Democrat). The newly-arrived candidate has a long and not very distinguished career and Forrester doesn't have to let him coast - he can attack his crappy voting record and stance on many issues very dear to so many in the country in the post 9/11 world.

He should definitely point out his opponents record, but I think his primary goal should be to make this election a referendum on the election and what was done by the Democrats. He should be running against the Democratic powerbrokers who abused the system and portray Lautenberg as a poor old fellow who got sucked up in this scheme.
