There have been strong rumors (just rumors) that the Gov in NJ likes all peoples... From what I hear it was started by the State Police because he appointed someone from outside the organization as their director.

I've heard this rumor as well, and not from the State Police. My source was a strong Democrat who simply couldn't bring himself to vote for a moron who, uh, "bats lefty." And he spoke about this topic as if it were a well-known fact, by the way.
Also, the State Police did not oppose McGreevey's appointment of the State Police Commissioner because he was "from outside the organization" -- they opposed the appointment because he had issues in his past that would have kept him from passing the State Police criminal background check. It makes no sense to have a police commissioner who isn't even qualified to be a rookie cop.
