WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Despite some Democratic divisions, the Senate moved closer Wednesday to sanctioning war with Iraq with the introduction of a bipartisan resolution that gives President Bush the authority to commit U.S. troops. Continues.
The agreement reached between President Bush and House leaders on a resolution authorizing the use of force to topple Saddam Hussein ratchets the pressure on Tom Daschle, top Senate Democrat and leading liberal hardliner.

I wonder how many Americans actually know this? I doubt if the US liberal media stressed it. "Iran-Contra" became a knee-jerk word signifying criticism of Republican foreign policy because the media sold the public on the idea that the "freedom-fighters" in Nicaragua were the side worthy of support. Nevermind that their success would have brought Communist regimes so close to our borders.
Cuba remains a center for international terrorism and last December hosted a meeting of Latin American and Middle Eastern groups including the Columbian FARC and representatives from Iraq. Mr. Castro provided critical support (including personnel) to help Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez survive a coup attempt. And he is courting the Chinese. The cost of abandoning regime change in Cuba has been very high.
And one more click gets you to the original article, if that is what drew you to choose this particular thread. You are entirely free to ignore JHs words. You are not free to tell him what he can or cannot post. That is the prerogative of Jim Robinson.
I hope you're right. It appears to be so. The more clearly the Torch's corruption was revealed, the lower his polling numbers went. Can it be that the more clearly the Democrat Party's corruption is revealed, the lower their number of votes will be on Election Day?
John "Mark McGwire" Huang2 whacks another one outta the park!
Excerpt:
But what can be said of a party which refuses to denounce treasonous scum like McDermott and Bonior, who argue the real threat isn't in Baghdad but in the White House?
Here's what Democrats would probably tell you privately: 'But ... but ... but, Torricelli had no choice but to bail. Having Torricelli's name on the ballot is like having Mullah Omar on the ballot. I mean, the guy's as radioactive as baby milk factories in Baghdad; about as popular with voters as Pat Robertson at an atheist rally, Ken Lay at an Enron stockholders' meeting, or the 'Pledge of Allegiance' at one of our party conventions.'
'Heck, we're only trying to give voters in New Jersey a choice', they will say.
Ah, yeah, sure -- and Barbra Barbara Striesand is a great speller and Saddam Hussein can be trusted and Bill Clinton did not have sex with 'that woman' and Martha Stewart did not have insider trading with that man and Maxine Waters is a rocket scientist and the Baath Party is a human rights organization and O.J. was "framed" by the LAPD.
Democrats argue they need not be bound by laws, rules or deadlines. After all, they're Democrats, i.e., they're special. Yes, laws should apply equally to all -- no quarrel there, they say. It's only fair. But to be even fairer, laws should apply more equally to some than to others.
Please let me know if you want ON or OFF my General Interest ping list!. . .don't be shy.
This is so on target, John. I've heard Democratic 'strategists' claim that the law should be circumvented because the Dims in NJ 'have a right' to have a candidate they want on the ballot. That 'it's not fair' if the voters don't have a choice.....Huhhh????? Exactly WHO took that choice away from them?? YOU did, Dims!!
But it's OK now, because the NJSC got that pesky little law out of the way........
It's transparent, IMO. Phyrric victory.
Greybird to JohnHuang2: You keep doing this to get a vanity posting -- without the opprobrium for doing so. We're not fooled. At least post the whole damn piece before (repeatedly) pushing your comments on us. I agree with you most of the time, by the way, in substance -- though not when you're being condescending or a Bush-bot. |
Who is the "we" that you cite? Greybird responds: Those who prefer that posters not evade the local discussion mores. MadIvan, who inserts his tedious one-line commentaries in nearly all his news postings, is another one. The endless "barf alert" tags are accepted local mores (so much the worse for FreeRepublic), but they're "merely" entirely discourteous to readers. |
FreeRepublic is under court order not to publish whole articles from certain news sources. Greybird responds: Not CNN, as I had understood. (Has this changed?) In any event, TWO LINES is not a decent excerpt. It's a mere token preface to personal (and endlessly repeated) commentary that doesn't belong "above the line" -- literally -- separating news from commentary. Some come here only for the former, and that choice deserves respect. |
If you don't like the posting styles of these two individuals (MadIvan, JohnHuang2) or others, perhaps you should find a website that better meets your needs. Or better yet, avoid those threads that so offend you. And as to the way threads are posted, last I checked, you are NOT the owner of this website.
Additionally, if you are so concerned about the way this website is being managed in re: to posting guidelines, or if you choose to castigate certain posters, ie MadIvan, you should be aware that it is considered good netiquette to "ping" those individuals you choose to address within your posts. I have taken the liberty of posting my comments and YOUR comments to those to whom they pertain.
Soul Mates: The Meltdown Continues
Tom Daschle calls Dick Gephardt
his "partner and soul mate" in the
afterglow of his mid-week meltdown.
This is too good...
Week of 9-23-2002
Tiny tommy da$$hole has repeatedly unsuccessfully attacked GWB since December last year. What was the first one, Enron? He keeps getting repelled by Bush every time, too !!
Yeah, they are special all right.
They are so special when they ALL gather on the steps of the Capitol to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to show how offended they are by judges that hate the word GOD; even as they vote to kill any judges who would reverse that course.
They are so careful not to want to shed any blood of our "children" proudly ready to eliminate forever Hussein, but they will fight tooth and toenail to continue killing unborn babies bby the millions.
They proudly point out how Iraq is all about oil, just as they vote to kill the development of ANWR which would eliminate the need for Saudi crude for 25 years.
They scream their faux patriotism by defending the actions of Baghdad Bonior and McDermott as "reasoned debate", by defending the rights of 170,000 government union workers at the expense of the security 250,000,000 AMERICANS.
The wail and cry about the destruction of the environment while making sure to protect the forests of SOUTH DAKOTA only. They want to force us into expensive wind power while conveniently igonring the cuisinart effect on those precious "raptors."
They cry and plead to spend more of our money on "education", while ever more inner city schools fail along with the "minority children" they refuse to help with vouchers.
They scream bloody murder about rising health care costs and health insurance, while they take the dripping blood money of their TRIAL LAWYER scum buddies, who in large part are responsible for the rise.
They rip their clothes asunder in frustration over the declining economy and jobs lost, all the while they are lying in wait to raise our taxes to further ruin the economy, just as they support every class action lawsuit that enriches them and their Trial Lawyer buddies.
They are so diverse and all inclusive that their party has such noted political/historical genius leaders as BarbedBra StreyeSand, Woody (mydadsamurderer) Harrelson, Jessica Lange, Alec Baldwin; all, according to Richard GEBhardt, far more worthy of consultation thatn the likes of Rush Limbaugh and the real reverend Pat Robertson.
They are so special that they have as their propaganda arm, the networks of NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, PBS and numerous others, and yet THEY ARE STILL FRIGGIN LOSING IN ALMOST EVERY POLL COVERING ALMOST EVERY ISSUE.
