The above link shows the way states regard the Federal deadline of absentee ballots. Georgia is scrambling to get the ballots out as quickly as possible for fear of a Federal lawsuit. They had late runoffs. But hey. Excuses don't cut it. They need to get those ballots out or else. New Jersey, on the other hand, is deliberately violating the law, just for the heck of it, even ignoring its own law at the same time. This nonsense can be dealt with effectively. One thing Ashcroft needs to do is to give them a strong letter of reprimand, along with a stiff warning that the deadline is too tight, and that it is disgraceful for a state supreme court to deliberately violate voth Federal and State law for partizan purposes.
30 days is cutting it too close. So they are really in a pickle. They are actually at Ashcroft's mercy right now.
