Yeah, Lyons mentioned that interests around Lake P. need to take precautions. It is due S of NO right now. Well, I am off to bed. Be back with you all at work tomorrow. Should be an exciting day! Good luck and prayers to those of you down there!

Not to mention it was just explained the raise in pressure up 4 is very common at this time of night in this part of the gulf. So it literally is not even storm related.

Discussion isn't out yet, but PA has course as NW, and FA has course at 330. NEXRAD would still suggest 315.

These night storms can kill some good footage. How CNN of me to say that! But hell...this is going to look amazing and frightening at the same time in about 7 hrs. I wonder if we are going to have the many many obligatory field reporters sitting on some beach tied to a palm tree outside a Days Inn?

"In case of the worst I checked the panty and I have two fresh bottles of Tabasco and a bottle of "Red Rooster" hot sauce."

Most people weren't aware of it but, a couple years ago picante sauce passed catsup in volume sales in the US.

My hubby is at home in Baton Rouge,,is he okay?

Right now, he's fine. Only light rain - which might not be reaching the ground - is showing on NEXRAD. Heavy stuff, however, from the first inflow band will pass through Baton Rouge in the next hour.

"Wind pressure on a surface varies as the square of the increase in wind velocity..."

That is correct. To put this into perspective, the force exerted by a 125 mph wind on a window pane, for example, is equivalent to 1250 lbs. of dead load. Add to this the sustained, pulsing nature of wind loads and you have a very destructive situation.

I have a visceral appreciation for the physics of hurricanes after sitting out Alicia in 1983 (Houston) as the storm passed directly overhead in the middle of the night (110 mph winds). The sight of sliding glass doors bowing inward nearly two inches and the sound of nails creaking as the roof strained to remain attached to the rafters is a memory that I will never forget.

Well, you can just shoot me now, if I have to watch Dan Rather tied to a sign post in a hurricane again. LOL

I just looked at Intellicast...is it just me or have they moved the forecast track 20-30 miles east with the 2300 EDT update? Still not terribly close to Nawlins, but it looks like Baton Rouge might get rocked pretty hard.

You Freepers down there hunker down and stay safe. And don't quit tracking this storm after it comes ashore...I grew up 20 miles south of Camille's *other* disaster area in 1969, up in Virginia.

"Wind pressure on a surface varies as the square of the increase in wind velocity..."

Almost correct. It is actually greater than the square because there is a vacuum effect on the lee side of whatever is being struck by the wind. The wind is pushing, and on the lee side there is a pull.

Thannks. My daughter is in Mew Orleans a couple blocks from Lake. I am on the east coast and they are phoning me constantly. She is terrified but windows are boarded and they have a fort under their stairwell. Hubby is at home in our house that is surrounded by trees and glass,,all big wondows, hi cathedral ceilings. He doesn't seem worried by I am imagining a tree coming thru a window,,he won't sleep in the laundary room, the only room without windows. I wish I were there holding my granddaughter next to me,,I know I could hold onto her better than anyone, I think. This is terrifying.
