I think they can technically be called Vietnam-era veterans, which is a far cry from a Vietnam vet.

Interesting. Reminded of that "Who Want to Marry a Millionaire" chick who said she was a Gulf War Veteran... As it happens, in the service, she had never left the States.

I guess this is the inevitable result of naming wars after geographical locations. Everyone assumes a Vietnam vet served in-country (or at least offshore). On the hand, if your dad was a World War II vet, few ask if he served in Normandy or in New Jersey.

As the Romans said, they also serve those who sit and wait.

I enlisted in the Air Force and served from 1970-74. I was fortunate enough to have been stationed stateside, at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS, and Eglin AFB, in Florida. I would never think of dishonoring the sacrifices of other military men who fought in Viet Nam by calling myself a Viet Nam vet. While technically, like those two cowards in Baghdad, I am a Viet Nam era vet, it is self-serving to refer to oneself as that, and I never do.

Likewise, one can be a Vietnam vet and not be a combat veteran.

I am very careful to always refer to my service as a Vietnam - Era veteran.
While I served for 9 years, it was in the U.S. and Germany.
As someone has already noted, military people go where assigned, and do their jobs.
Personally, and in retrospect, I was lucky.
I could have been assigned a combat role, and died.
I could have lost body parts, disabled for the remainder of my life.
I could have suffered recurring, life long nightmares.
I could have ended up a POW, or MIA.

We should honor those who were given the job and did it, but understand that no one in his/her right mind seeks it.

This should be interesting indeed. I have always turned the channel when these two traitors have spewed their "Fondaesque Flatulence" (new phrase for grampa dave) on the sheeple so I have not heard first hand their claims of glory.

I hope they aren't that stupid as to make a claim as fought in Vietnam when there are so many ways to check such . If they have indeed lied then Dasshole needs to look into his own tribe for dishonoring veterans versus slamming GW for alledgedly doing so last week......

Dear Dasshole, have your own house in order before you throw rocks at others you seditious simplistic jerk.

Stay Safe !

Yes, big difference between serving during Vietnam and serving in Vietnam.
