Angels withdraw from playoffs! 1986 Red Sox to play Yankees

NEW YORK – Inexplicably citing a long list of accomplishments by this year’s Angels team, a teary Mike Sciosia announced today that his team was pulling out of their division series with the Yankees after dropping the opening game.

“We had a good run. Ninety-nine wins is something to be very proud of. But we ain’t gonna win this series. Everybody knows it. You guys in the media, all you want to talk about is Giambi and Jeter. Soriano and Clemens. Doesn’t anybody want to talk about Weber and Levine? Schields and Donnelly?”

Angels Manager, Mike Sciosa – “We just cannot win this series.”

The sudden withdrawal of the Angels left the American League scrambling for a replacement team. After being turned down by many of this year’s clubs, most of whom cited fishing and golfing commitments, the league finally secured the services of1986 Red Sox.

“You bet I’m in!” blurted an excited Bill Buckner, before dropping the microphone between his legs. “I’ve been doing squat thrusts to limber up.”

“Just tell me who to bean.” mumbled Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd, while swatting imaginary flies from his hair.

The Yankees, however, are not thrilled with the prospects of continuing the series against a different club.

“What a bunch of bull(bleep)!” bellowed a partially drunken David Wells. “Those pussies quit! Now, I’m supposed to go out and pitch to a bunch of old has-beens who traipse in at the last minute?! Thanks but no thanks. There’s three strippers at Scores with my name on their asses.”

George Steinbrenner, however, supported the replacement idea. “Hell, I’ve sold the damn tickets. Good luck getting a refund from me!”

Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig, hunkered down in his office, was unavailable for comment.

Tonight’s starting matchup:
Boston – Roger Clemens (24-4)
Yankees – Roger Clemens (13-6)

At the rate they're going, it'll probably be the only way the Red Sox will ever get into the playoffs.......

RE: my family's cruise. Just checked the Carnival Cruise line website. It says they're bringing the ship in to New Orleans today instead of Thursday. So I guess the family will get back in time to go batten down the hatches in Lafayette. Crazy trip!

Born and raised in San Diego, dude. The Swoaks can go to he!! too for all I care. Actually I do root for them; for the same reason I root for the Mets. I'm as sick of seeing of seeing pinstripes in October as I am of hearing OOOOOOH OOOOH OOOOOHOOOOOO.

I am an actual baseball fan, having been raised watching the Padres play major legue teams.

Amusingly enough the 1986 Red Sox had a great and raucous American League playoff with the Cal. Angels before they got to the World Series.

I was at that crazy game in Anaheim. One of the greatest baseball games ever played, it had everything...including(unfortunately in the end)tragedy(Donnie Moore). Wish they had that game on tape\classic sports channel, would love to see it(again).

Do you remember the guy who had a steam powered air horn mounted in his pick up truck? It was real loud and he tooted it at appropriate moments.

The truck was real near the stadium. Maybe in a close by parking lot.

Reports of the demise of the Angels appear to be somewhat premature. Friday, the rest of America can get fully educated on the topic Monkeys--specifically the Rally variety, native to Orange County, CA. It's about to climb all over the Best Team Money Can Buy.

For the rest of you conservative baseball fans, watch this team a little more and appreciate the values they practice on the field; persistence, focus, teamwork, guts, and heart. They are'nt the most skilled guys I've ever seen, but this is one of the few teams I genuinely like.

Go ahead and laugh at Eckstein, he's used to it. Undrafted and unrecruited out of High School, he walked on at U of Forida and became an All SEC 2nd baseman. 5'6", and the AL league leader in grand slams (3) this season. He is quite representative of the work ethic on this team. I wish a few of them were Padres.

don't people think that anything liberal legislators do is OK, and therefore if the powers of baseball decide to switch teams in the 6th game that it's OK, cause, after all, 'dem legislaters do it!?'

No, but I remember hearing some Boston fan got his ear bit off(ala Tyson)by a disgruntled Angel's fan after the game.
