I do not think Lautenberg can win. I'm from CT which is even more liberal than NJ and people from both states lost quite a few loved ones on 9/11. Old-time, dove liberals like Lautenberg just won't fly high anymore.

Why do 35 days matter if 51 days do not? Because the 35 days are set by federal law, which the NJ courts don't have the right to monkey with.
To: aristeides
These guys are unreal. The law is 'artificial' but 'choice' is real. Up is down. Black is white. etc.
To: Catspaw
How is this going to play with the Torch's voters? Will they stay at home? It is a good bet Torch won't stump for Laughenberg.
To: Spunky
You can't take dead people off the ballot if the time has passed it's the law in these casesI'm beginning to suspect the New Jersey Supreme Court doesn't even have a passing acquaintence with the actual laws of the state. They sounds terribly uninformed.

OK, I've got a fair and balanced solution, if I were (God forbid) a NJSC justice:
Let the dems have the benefit of substituting a candidate at the last moment "in the voters best interest", and:
Let the pubs pick the dem candidate they get to run. Ha!

Now they're talking about moving the certification date days after Election Day to accommodate the 35 days.one judge even stepped in and asked for the attorney to say "yes" or "no" if that extention would be compatible federally.
Chief Justice just said "can't find 35 days anywhere". DUH

Time for us to bump Forrester and replace with former Governor Tom Kean. It's just unbelievable.

He was certainly the last choice as they went through all of the democrat congressman and bill bradley before they came to Lautenberg. Plus, Torricelli hates his guts. In fact, there was reports that Torricelli only agreed to withdraw provided that Lautenberg was not his replacement. Torricelli should have known better than to trust the democrats. Sheesh.
And based on Lautenberg's press conference yesterday, I can see why Lautenberg was their last choice. The guy is 78 and appears to have some sort of dementia. He didn't make any sense at all. Having said all that, I think he will win. This is New Jersey, afterall.

One Justice is asking about extending the window of allowing ballots to come in (military) for a few more days...give them a bit more time...but the 35 day window is to get the ballots out and returned, not counted ??
New Justice says "I can't find 35 days anywhere" -- what the heck do these justices do ?? earlier one guy siad..."Can you explain this to me, I don't quite get it"

Actually it is on newjersy public tv available on line (www.njn.net)
I've been listening throughout. The justices were moderately tough on the 'RATs, but have been brutal on the 'Pubbie lawyer who sounds like an idiot to me.
They didn't even finish the motion to joint the state 'Pubbie party? DOLT - call the federalist society, anything, to get the lawyers to do the work!!
The 'Pubbie lawyer soulds legalistic and hesitant, sounds like fool to me. Very scary. There is no question in my mind, based on 20 years in practice, that they will hold for the Democrats.

Now that the party has done the one thing he asked them not to do--replace him with Lautenberg--he might do anything. One hopes. I don't know how legally accurate this can be, but another thread reads: Torch Transfers Campaign Warchest to Lautenberg. If this is remotely true, then Torch might be getting the screws tightened by the rest of the Demons.

These justices are playing Twister in order to find ways to change the name on the ballot.
Their most impressive move is where they have all put their heads.
The second Republican attorney was great, but this case is over.
