ANTI-FLAG
ME
Posted on 09/30/2002 7:44:20 AM PDT by MotleyGirl70
Sunday morning I woke and went to Micky Ds to get my husband a big breakfast and some other kind of breakfast food (I bought myself a large coffee).
As I waited in line behind 100,000,000 other people I looked to my left and saw three boys; Id say they couldnt have been older than 16 years old. Description of said white punks listed below:
Boy 1: Frizzed out hair, John Lennon glasses and a jacket that was infested with pins and patches. One of those patches read: Anti-Flag. (this set me off)
Boy 2: Blue hair, chubby and he had a top hat on.
Boy 3: Lets just say my cat craps bigger stool than this little twerp.
So as I was waiting in line I asked Boy 1; Whats up with that patch, Anti-Flag?
He said; Its a band.
I said Are you anti-American?
The punk said; Yes
I said Why?
To which he said: Vietnam, WWI and WWII did us no good. America kills the innocent.
At this point my blood is boiling and Im ready to punch this punk in the face and my food order is soon to be picked up.
I said; I dont give a shit what you think. When you get a job; and start paying taxes and contribute something to society your opinion doesnt mean shit. So take your 60s peace mentality and shove it up your ass. If you three represent the future of America, it scares me, it scares me very much. You want to want to be anti-American, go tell your b.s. to a United States veteran who fought for the very freedom you have. (
.I wanted to go on but I had to pick up my order and leave. I got a nod from some guy waiting in line in agreement with my confrontation with this kid.)
At that point I picked up my order, they left and I made my exit.
Is this the future of America? Anti-Flag?

Yeah i come from a very left leaning family too (not quite communist though). I used to have that Rage against the machine mentality when i was real young. I think the major turning point for me was when i turned 15 and saw my first paycheck and saw how much went to taxes. I started thinking more clearly from that point on.

...speaking of anti-American/anti-Flag...can anyone tell me what the heck this thing represents, as I am subjected to passing it every time I want to get in or out of my neighborhood?
.........never mind. Searching for this image, I guess I have found my answer. (sigh)

Every one,
every one of these punks should be re-educated by spending one month in Haiti.
They will kiss the ground when they return.

I'm surprised you found three 16 year-olds awake on a Sunday morning, much less out and about.

I had the misfortune of experiencing Anti-Flag in the flesh, as they were an opening band when I attended a Rage Against The Machine concert (I am well aware of the implications of attending neo-marxist social functions, and I can only say in my defense 1) I was much younger 2) I really had not given much thought to the ideology behind their music 3) In all fairness, they were pretty good live 4)This was one of the catalysts that made me realize that the Left is alive and well, and that active enngagement is the only rational response). But Anti-Flag combined the worst elements of modern punk music (they make Sid Vicious sound like Mozart) with a healthy dose of anarcho-socialist nonsense. Even the crowd was pretty much dead silent during and after their performance.
Overall, I would say they were less repellent than the other pre-show fixture at a RATM concert, some angry, angry little woman spewing obscenities in defense of Mumia Abu Jamal, Cop-killer extraordinaire (that takes some gall when you consider the concert took place in Philadelphia). But there were a few important lessons I learned:
1. The younger fans are just repeating what they think they may have heard in a song.
2. Anyone young man who has the time and interest to sew on small patches representing even smaller bands and ideologies are probably doing so to identify with some social unit, as they are no doubt rejects in the circles they are supposed to operate in (read: never, ever going to talk to girls).
3. Aside from hoping that their peers will beat them into the straight and narrow (unlikely, even in the current patriotic climate) or for parental guidance (equally unlikey at that point), your anger only fuels the sort of disaffected impudence with which you are dealing.
That said, I probably would have said something too, but more in the vein of humiliating him publicly rather than just straighforward confrontation...a little cruelty goes a long way in bringing our morally retarded youth around.
At any rate, I applaud your love of America and your willingness to defend it; if more persons were like you these morons would have to drop the facade of having thought such stupid things up rationally.

And in answer to your last question, I don't think so. People who remain in that mindframe go nowhere, it is the most likely consequence of being an idiot.
America prevails, regardless.

I voted for Dollar Bill in '92:
1)Because I was an idiot
2)Because I thought Bubba was "cool" and he was on MTV and I was politically ignorant.
I know and realize I didn't know much about politics back then at the age of 22. But at least I wasn't anti-American.
I don't take my freedom for granted. These punks have no idea how fortunate they are.

Good thing I don't live in eastern Tosa, then.

I think you're right on in what you said to those punks. Good for you. :o)
To: MotleyGirl70
Agree with you, but for these kids, it's just a phase. Probably trying to P*ss off their conservative parents. I did it myself, at one point in time, too. It's good to be an independent thinker.......these guys will likely grow up to be libertarian.
I always try to look on the bright side. :)
You should have asked them where Vietnam was, or why we entered WW I. Make 'em think. Or, make 'em think twice.

Are you a liberal or a conservative? Neither.
Liberals and Conservatives are two sides of the same big-government coin.
Liberals want to rob me of my hard-earned money, and send government thugs to harrass me in the name of "compassion".
Conservatives want to rob me of my hard earned money, and send government thugs to harrass me in the name of "morality".
The founders of this once-great nation would have been sickened by both.

What do they do with the money they make? Keep it to become rich, like those they dispise? (typical hypocrit)or give it away?
BTW, when talking to young punks, ask them questions like, what do you mean by that? Tell me about WWII and what you think we did there to oppress and kill people??? Chances are they know absolutely nothing. Just embarrass them in front of the crowds and leave them at that!!
And have fun doing it---the left hates it when we smile and have fun at their expense.

It just disgusts me each time my 6 year old is subjected to having to look at the thing, especially since her Daddy is a reservist, etc...
