Uranium seized in Turkey (names the suspects); US in consultations

ISTANBUL, Turkey (CNN) -- Turkish officials said Saturday they have seized 34.6 pounds of uranium and arrested two Turkish men in Urfa, a town in southeastern Turkey. U.S. officials are in touch with authorities to get information about the seizure.

I was wondering if our allies (Turkey) would help uncover a smoking gun for us ? Say if the CIA asked them to, and if we wanted to make things dicey for Saddam. See! See what we found. See! See what he is doing ? Just a thought. Tin Foil Alert ! lol The thought did occur to me earlier when I first heard about this. The timing is so convenient. Could be a case of good investigative work- period.

If it is legitimate (uranium that's either industrial or weapons grade) the implications are mind boggling. Just how much of this stuff is out there and how much is in Iraq already or wherever ?

On the serious side, the demwits and the pacificist are really stupid when it comes to nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.

They do not seem to be able to understand that it does not matter whether or not Saddam Hussein (aka 'Sodamned Insane') has to technical capability to produce weapons grade uranium or plutonium. It is very clear that if 'Sodamned Insane' cannot produce weapons grade material, he will either steal it or obtain the uranium or plutonium on the black market.

The demwits and pacificists are also incapabable of seeing the other evidence of Saddamy's intent to develop nuclear weapons and use them. Specifically, the purchase of lithotripters (kidney stone treatment units), not for use in hospitals and clinics, but for the electronics to produce the precisely focused explosion waves necessary for implosion type nuclear devices.

Neither can the demwits and the pacificists comprehend Saddamy's previous history with weapons of mass destruction. They act as if 'Rodham Hussein' never used weapons of mass destruction, inspite of the photos of gassed women and children.

Pacificism has a long record of failure, it is just not workable. As long as there are evil individuals, such as Sadam Husein, the use of force will be necessary to protect the innocent.

In all sincerity, I will be looking forward to seeing what the lab says this stuff is. I read a thread earlier tonight that has pictures of the item found and it's clearly marked "Made in Germany", it looks like it's about 12 to 14 inches long and around 2 inches in diameter. From what I understand Weapons grade uranium is very heavy, much like Mallory. A stick of Mallory that size would have to be heavier than 33lbs.

I will be anxious to see the results of the testing.. If it turns out to be weapons grade material, this is (without a doubt) an eminent threat and a clear and present danger!!

dittos / same here- I saw that cylinder too. I am not going to split hairs whether smugglers (confederates ie: terrorists) have low grade 2-3% unenriched uranium in their possession or high grade 80% + highly enriched uranium. Either way, they are going to have a bad hair day.

It's like catching a couple of terrorists and finding one with a single hand grenade and the other guy has a reel of detonation cord. I can infer that the first guy was going to hurt somebody with the grenade, and that would be limited in scope, where as the second guy was really up to no good and had big plans. He is going to get most of my attention, and if he plays heroe with me I'll let my allies overseas "interview" him.
