I believe that much in the Bible is metaphor, (i.e., Joseph as a "picture" of Christ -- forgiving his brothers after they sold him into slavery) but I believe that it is all true, actually happened, etc. I KNOW it's true because God is trustworthy. He's proved it over and over, even to someone like me.

Yes, yes, yes!!!! You're right on! One must remember the "demographic" of the day. The authors knew their audience and were writing it in terms they could understand. Although the Bible is the inspired word of God, people in those times did not have the level of understanding we do today. For instance, the Book of Genesis put the creation of the world in terms that these folks could understand. They would not be able to pick up an issue of "Popular Science" and understand it the way we do today.
However, I don't believe God means for us to know everything right now. There has to be room to choose to have Faith.

The Bible is inspired metaphor.
Ha ha ha. Virtually all language is metaphor. Try again.
