A rally was held this morning at Dupont Circle by some of the anti-capitalist protesters inundating DC today. After the rally, the group began walking peacefully on Connecticut Avenue toward Farragut Square at 18th and K Streets, N.W.
When the group reached the block between L and K Streets, they stopped. Some of the protesters formed smaller groups to walk in circles at the four corners of the intersections, while others decided to drop down to the ground (execute a die-in) at the midpoint of the block in front of the Greater Atlantic Bank.
I spoke to an undercover officer at our vantage point across the street from the action. He told me that the group chanted while marching in the street: LESS BANK, MORE WORLD then MORE WORLD, LESS BANK, etc. The protesters were given opportunities to maintain a peaceful walk, but some of them decided to drop to the ground in front of the bank anyway. After warnings, those who came to be arrested were arrested.
The police, led by Chief Ramsey, were prepared and loaded up a Metro bus with protesters. While police in full riot gear stood in the intersections and around the perimeter area, the loaded bus was escorted to its destination by a number of police cars and 17 motorcycle policemen.
News photographers and cameramen took up a position in the middle of the street to film the protesters as the bus pulled out. One protester pressed his/her cuffed hands against the window, while another young girl with bandana stood smiling for the cameras.
The officer standing next to me pointed out a guy across the street wearing a bright green baseball cap. He said the "green hats" were the protesters' legal advisers. When asked what would happen to those arrested, he was not sure what they would be charged with or what the disposition would be. Hopefully, they won't be back on the streets in time to cause more trouble today or tomorrow.
After the arrested protesters were taken away and the others moved on to their next encounter, the crowd disbursed.

OK, local news has LOTS of protestors CLAIMING police brutality. But since there was almost as much media as protestors out there, and since that did NOT occur, they're going to have a hard time backing it up.
To: Angelwood
..the residents responded by saying, "We are!" LOL!! Good to hear all is ok, Angelwood.

Accounts from local news, and even from Dc.indymedia.org (socialist news site) all agree:
DC police did a masterful job of congregating and arresting protestors at Freedom Park.
Zero, zero serious injuries for cops and protestors, too, so no maytrs.
No way to score this as less than a solid victory for the DC police. Clear that Chief Ramsey, who had been talking more leniently in the week, was leaned on to be tough. But give credit where credit is do: they did NOT let these jerks shut down our city.

video of demonstrators
I highly recommend this link. It's a Washington Post video from the Washington Post site that gives a good flavor of the police work today.

First things first... I just took a "rush hour walk" around the World Bank and again saw nothing. The media is still there but I only saw one "set-up" for interviews. The TV personalities aren't around or at least there not on the streets as they were this afternoon. There are still a lot of buses which are being motorcaded in but the buses are empty.
A couple of more things that I saw today before I met up with Angelwood....There was a protester who was taking pictures of the cops and the three cops that I saw all had cameras taking pictures of the protester! I'm not sure if all of the police have cameras, but these three did. There were a couple of handfuls of them at the University trying to use the public bathrooms but the UPD was in front of the Student Center requesting ID's.
After the split with Angelwood and Kristinn I walked back through the ellipse in front of the White House. Again, no protesters on the ellipse or on the Washington Monument grounds. I walked back up Pennsylvannia Ave and still nobody.
It is really quiet now and the only sounds are that of the police motorcades escorting the empty buses. Where are they????

I went in to work today as usual. Traffic was light on my route (past NBC-4 studios, American University and Georgetown Hospital). AU campus looked fairly deserted, same for Georgetown, and no signs of jokers trying anything funny at NBC-4, either.
It was a slow day at work, lots of folks just didn't show up for appointments. So we spent a little of the free time looking at the photos of the strippers in Georgetown, and the spoiled brats getting spanked for misbehaving.
All in all a quiet day for me. I too, drove in to work in a 4WD vehicle - just in case I might need to use the sidewalks or something.
Last note before I get down to work on readying flags, makeup, signs, etc. - I stopped by the local theatrical supply house and replenished my supply of William Wallace Blue. The girl in the store said that each compact of color would do twenty-five faces... so I got enough for one hundred. That, plus what I have on hand from previous events should cover close to two hundred faces. So, I expect to see a lot of FReepers tomorrow morning.
Bring mirrors, so you can see your handiwork. I only have one or two of them. I have Noxema and cold cream to remove the makeup also.
Now I must get busy!
Eagles UP !!
