[history]
Iowa Republican officials said today they believe the man who taped a private meeting of U.S. Rep. Greg Ganske was a former aide to Sen. Tom Harkin more than 20 years ago who early this year wrote a letter critical of Ganske to The Des Moines Register.

Did a search and did not see this posted yet. Looks like Harkins people were behind it afterall. The supposed republican seems to have been a plant who changes from dem to rep to get invite, then back to dem. May have previously been a Harkin staffer???!!!

The tape isn't even damaging, but the Harkin campaign is going to pay for this.

Why the hell was this guy invited?
To: Howlin
Yep, they have gone from being wrong headed to plain evil, win at all costs, lie cheat and steal. I really get angry about their antics.

Listening to WABC. Apparently the guy switched from Democrat to Republican Party. He made a $50.00 contribution and signed a card saying that he would be willing to volunteer for Ganske. He was a mole trying to get cozy with the Ganske campaign.

I hope Harkin is toast! I noticed that dungheap didn't immediately call the police or somebody upon receipt of this illicit tape and transcript. They just initially denied, than accepted "full responsibility" which means nothing to a dem, just empty words meant to appease.
I'd like to tape some of their damage control emergency meetings! Bwahaha!

Dirty tricks campaign ... well well well ...hope Harkin pays dearly for this. anyone remember that the Gore campaign had an anonymous tipster, and the DUI 3 days before election ... hmmm a bad habit. they must be running out of ideas.

New at the news at 10..the guy who taped the meeting was Brian Connoly who worked for Harkin in the past...also he wrote an editorial in February supporting Harkin and saying Ganske was in trouble. He switched parties and gave money to Ganske and got the invite....
I hope this can turn the election around but we are so liberal here it is going to be tough...

Harkin first came to public attention in about 1970, when, as a congressional staffer, he secretly took photos on Con Son Island, the main prison camp for North Vietnamese and Viet Cong POWs (after he had been informed that doing so was forbidden).
He then took those photos (which were of the worst parts of the prison he could find), and sold them to Life magazine for $10,000. What resulted was nothing less than a propaganda coup for the communists; but one that launched Harkin's career as a hero of the Left.
It's no coincidence that when Bubba normalized relations with the same communist dictators, the first person he sent over was Tom Harkin. I mean, why not? They were buddies after all!
Commie Tommy has been friends with any number of communist regimes in the last 30 years--Angolans, Sandinistas, Russians, Cubans, Vietnamese, Chinese--and has openly opposed any groups fighting them. Anyone remember the Contras? Bob Dornan once related to me an incident in the early eighties, in the midst of the Sandinista/Contra war, when Congressman Dornan and Congressman Sonny Montgomery walked into Sandinista headquarters unannounced. The doors to the Ortega brother's office opened, and out walked the Ortegas and none other than Tom Harkin---they had been having a private meeting, which was of course illegal.
One of the marks of any Harkin campaign has been his willingness to do ANYTHING to win. This incident highlights that fact.
It is deliciously ironic to see something that harkens back to Harkin's beginnings like this bite him in the butt. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Let's all hope and pray that one thing that will change though is Harkin's ability to lie his way through a campaign and beat Republican Congressmen.

Harkin is a dungheap. This may skewer him.
Still, Ganske supporters or the RNCC should videotape Harkins's actual home IN THE BAHAMAS and contrast it with his registered address (a/k/a MAILBOX) in Iowa. Thereafter an ad run with those mid-80s sepia-toned pics of our heroic and ethical, khaki-shirted TOMMY bear-hugging Danny Ortega there in Nicaragua. Then some clips of his 1992 anti-Saddamery speechifying ....
Harkin is a dungheap.

He changed his registration to Republican in June, coinciding with the primary election. He changed it back to Democrat in July. That's strange. I thought one had to wait a reasonable amount of time for the registration to take affect or at least that's how it's done in NY.

I hope this can turn the election around but we are so liberal here it is going to be tough... I don't think it will hurt him at all. He can do anything he wants to do,as long as he continues to deliver the welfare payments to the rich Dim farmers in Iowa. It's the same deal as with Daschle and the ranchers in South Dakota.
