Laura Bush confident in Mexico-U.S. immigration agreement

EFE - 9/26/2002

U.S. First Lady Laura Bush said she was convinced an immigration agreement could be reached between Mexico and the United States, because their leaders want it.

Mrs. Bush, who participated in the 11th Conference of the Wives of Heads of State and Government in Mexico City on Wednesday, said, "I do see a solution to this problem."

In statements to the Mexican press made in Washington and published Wednesday in Reforma daily, Laura Bush explained she and her husband had lived in Texas for many years and have a special sensitivity for the problems of the U.S. Hispanic community.

"There are so many stories about immigrants and the children of immigrants in the United States. Our whole country is made up of immigrants who were able to overcome poverty and obtain good jobs. There are many examples in my husband's administration," the first lady noted.

Mrs. Bush acknowledged that the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks had set back the agenda between Mexico and the United States, but insisted that Presidents Bush and Fox "are going to meet again to try to revitalize and refocus the issue of immigration."

The first lady said she felt "a special bond with Mexico" and recalled the couple had spent their honeymoon in Mexico City and the Caribbean resort of Cozumel. The first lady is expected to focus on childhood poverty as she participates in this summit.

". At the same time, you do have employers who feel that they cannot compete without illegal labor, as legal citizens will not work for such low wages. Thus, the continual hiring of illegal aliens, and Americans being "too lazy". It's much easier to get a welfare check than to work for five dollars per hour in backbreaking work. Furthermore, how many Americans want to work around individuals who can't speak the language, and how many employers are discriminating against Americans, for they cannot communicate with the other employers? What about harassment coming from illegal aliens."

Yes, it is much easier to get a welfare check. But the illegals are getting the work AND THE WELFARE CHECK!!!!

The Americans could work for less money if they did not have to pay taxes, medical insurance, and all the other things.

Yes, I think Americans have become lazy - but at least theya re just getting the welfare. The illegals are getting the welfare and the jobs. It's not either or with them - they get both. We don't even have any jobs left to force the welfare receipients to take.

This is going to be hard to do these days...since they don't want to learn how to speak English and this country is bending over backwards to help them NOT learn our language.

If Tancredo got a great PR campaign, and dedicated himself to fight this madness, including wide-open borders, illegal immigration, NAFTA, GATT, as well as other pro-global/anti-sovereignty issues, I think that he could do rather well against Bush, perhaps garnering as big a vote as Bush.

"As I have said before, I differ from some of the other writers here, in that I like Mexicans, and have a lot of respect for them as workers and as people. I would add them to your list of preferred countries. But the numbers need to be about a 10th of what they are now."

First, the numbers need to be 0% of what they are now. Get a handle on things, then we'll see.

Secondly, this is not a matter of liking or disliking anyone. It is a matter of survival for our families and our country. I don't like illegals, be they Mexicans, or Martians. I don't want them here period. I don't care how good of workers or people they are. They have broken the laws and are stealing from the American people.

Yes, National Guards on the borders and make a big issue of it. Let all of the world know we man our borders.

You're right, it will be hard to turn it around. We've got outright traitors, Globalists, bought-off with corporate interests, thinking about the "votes", as well as numerous other things.

That statement is filled with rhetoric. Is he claiming that native-born Americans are not American enough, and hence we need more immigrants to make us more American.

The reasoning seems odd, for native-born Americans, I would think, are much more American-like than some newly arrived immigrant. Thus, such is in direct contradiction to President Bush's quote.

Those folks committed suicide at the behest of the corrupt Mexican government. Nobody else is to blame.

A bunch of my ancestors died, because the natives shot at them! At least those inhabitants had a pair. The Pawnee and Cherokee and Comanche weren't know to love the white man... We who ultimately defeated them have grown weak and 'pairless'.

Cowards and immigrant bashers seem to go hand in hand.

Illegal aliens aren't immigrants. They're criminals. They need to be booted outta here.

"Most of our blue collar manufacturing jobs are GONE. Hello, what planet are you on? 100 years ago there were blue collar jobs that Americans and immigrants could perform and maintain a middle class existence. These have been exported to China, Indonesia and everywhere else. You must work for the Government if you can't see that"

Yes, we did have a very large blue collar middle class at one time in this country. People who worked hard, paid taxes, obeyed the law, spent their money in America, sent their children to college (themselves). Then NAFTA. So many white collar intellectuals thought it was wonderful. Some thought we should get rid of all that 'nasty' manufacturing. Some just because they felt so superior to anyone who got their hands dirty. Some gloated because they thought it would destroy the unions.

Now we have all those things accomplished. If we go to war in a big way, we will have to 'depend on the kindness of strangers' for critical goods. I doubt we could even make enough uniforms for our military.

We are older, but we too, are getting ready to get out of the rat race. At the end of two years, we hope to have a small piece of land in another state and just enough income to have a good life, and raise some good healthy food for our grandchildren.

There are 3 reasons why some elected officals, and those who work for them, wish to kiss the feet of senor fox.

1. Mexican oil

2. Mexican dope

3. Mexican votes.............

Good point. I propose that immigration is not the problem. Non-European immigration is the problem. This is not a racial statement, by the way, merely cultural and geographic.

You know, I don’t really blame the illegal aliens for coming here. The way things are, they’d have to be morons not to. I blame our government for the problem.

They have an agenda, all right; and it's to swamp Western lands with mass Third World immigration, thus destroying Western Civilization. Time for America and Europe to 'just say no' to Third World immigration.
