THE STATE has NO BUISNESS making education mandatoryIt failed in your case....

Arguing on the internet is like playing in the special olympics - even if you win, you're still retarded.LOL! Best line on this thread....
To: Arkinsaw
You may be educating kids to be able to do math or biology in a nice quiet orderly room but its pure worthless crap if they come out the other end as good little mindless drone workers without a concept of individual freedom and trained to conform to government wishes and obey quietly. Right On! Power to the People! Bring it all Down, Man! Education is Torture!
What mindless drivel....

Naaa... Just spread the love! Good answer. I'm headed down to Personnel to change my race.
How does Native American African American sound?

If she can run a 4.3 40 and can take a hit over the middle then the NFL will let her wear her hair anyway she wants....
To: Arkinsaw
ps-- Lest you think I'm raising societal drones-- my 19 year old son is a Middle Linebacker playing college football. My 16 year old is the starting Quarterback on his high school team. Both shave their heads before games and leave patches of hair spelling out their school's initials. I think it looks stupid, but hey, it's what they think looks cool.
Now should their schools or their coaches tell them to knock off the hair stuff or they cannot continue to play or be in class should I A) tell them they're victims and they should fight the evil authoritarian school system. B) tell them to grow up, toe the line, and behave the correct way. C) tell them that they're free to make any choice they want regarding their hair, but that their choices have consequences, some intended and some unintended, and that they're responsible for those choices and those consequences...?
What do you think I've told my kids since they were in diapers? I'll match them up against most adults for intellectual and emotional maturity as well as leadership ability.

You would rather the T-shirt say "I hate to masturbate?" Who could believe that?Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. But let him master bait, and he is self sufficient....

In my opinion, what we are dealing with here is the female equivalent of a 450 hp Dodge hemispehical engine that is being forced to live in a world of Nissan Sentras and Honda Accords. In the real world, this girl is no C/D student. In some ways, you're right. There's an old saying-- A students manage B students in factories owned by C and D students. Depending on how she moves forward from here she might be end up a big winner or just a big whiner....

Law of Unintended Consequences.... You can say that again.
I'll close by saying that the land, buildings, and equipment Auction Value of the 90,000 Public Schools nationwide would add up to an un-freakin'-believable "School Voucher" or "Rebate" program if we had the Political Will to return Children (and tax dollars) to their Parents.
Let's see. $10k/yr for each child in a government school x 12 years = $120k. Now lets imagine that that money was invested with Merril Lynch instead. Then every 18-year-old in the country could be presented with a check for around $200-250k on his 18th birthday. But he would have to forgo 12 years of schooling.
Tough decision.

Apparently, gubmint school had no authority to teach you to spell.... Well, they don't. And I never set foot in one anyway. You can blame my spelling on nuns.
It seems your obsession with spelling is more important to you than the state making decicions for parents about the raising of their own children. Sad.

**Oh yeah. My wife saw a high school age girl in the supermarket the other night. Bet you can't guess what the T-shirt said. Really. You'll never guess. Drum roll please... "I love to masturbate." Really. It said, ""I love to masturbate." I'm not making this up. **
Absolutely disgusting. Just when I thought I couldn't be shocked anymore...

So she cant get rid of the dreads without shaving her head? hmmmm.....well, if she comes to school with a shaved head, would that be considered "outlandish"? or will she have to wear a wig?
That aside, I hate dreads. They are ugly, dirty and silly looking IMO.
To: FeliciaCat
Maybe she could just put a wig over her dreads. That would solve the problem. She can have the dreads on her own time, and the school can have a well-groomed inmate on school time.

Why do school dress code threads always become among the most heated and active threads on FR?
The basic issue is simple. Some people think strict rules and guidelines for how students dress is helpful to an educational environment. Others disagree.
Most people on FR frown upon the way public schooling is structured in the first place. In a private school, this isn't an issue. You don't have to send your kid there if you don't like their rules.
The only strong reaction I have to this article is the continuing futility of public schooling.

How convenient for the state. They make education cumpulsory and mandatory, and then provide, AT TAXPAYER EXPENSE, the only "free" means of fulfilling their mandate. That sounds like involuntary servitude to me.
To: ladylib
LOL..There ya go. Problem solved.
To: ItsBacon
so, if any truant officers are sent to homeschoolers in that area, all the homeschooling family has to do is apply the dreadlocks hairstyle to their children and the school won't want them... this is so dumb! here the school has no problem with this gal not attending school, but other public schools want to force those being educated at home to attend public school...

DING! DING! DING! This is by far the only post on this thread from an author whose knees have not jerked uncontrollably.
Some people can't see the trees for the forest.
To: ItsBacon
"So she started twisting and rubbing segments of her hair until, two months later, it was matted enough for the dreadlocks to hold their form" If she bathed very carefully she could soon smell like others who wear dreadlocks. Reggae is cool, dreads are on the otherhand, unsanitary. At least her hair is not purple, blue, or green. But then green hair carrying the odor of camomille would'nt be so bad. It's that just green hair spiked or sticking straight up would tend to make you appear to be a moron. although thats probably the case, "a truth in Doo's statement" is no doubt not the intent.
