Rat-gate? or Iowa-gate?
Sen. Harkin should resign, now. (I'm turning blue waiting for that to happen. :)

"A partial apology from one member of a conspiracy is not enough, Ganske spokesman Ann Warren said in the statement."
Looks like it is democrat politics as usual. If this happened in a Republican campaign the press would be all over the candidate, not the campaign manager, about whether or not the staffer would be dismissed.

Didn't President Nixon have to RESIGN because of illegal campaign behavior? I think it was obstruction of justice that got Nixon. Remember, the one Clinton got away with.

U.S. Sen. Tom Harkins campaign manager apologized Monday after acknowledging that his staff released the transcript of a closed-door Ganske for Senate campaign meeting, while Republicans called for a criminal probe to find out who taped the private proceedings. Wonder if Linda Tripp has heard this one. The Democrats weren't very nice to her, were they?

"Didn't President Nixon have to RESIGN because of illegal campaign behavior? " Nixon did NOT have to resign at all. He choose to rather than put the country through any further process that might have lead to impeachement, though even that is prospect is in doubt.
The charge likely would have been obstruction of justice by not disclosing the White House taping system, and all they did reveal. Once that info was disclosed, he was more or less done (as far at the press was concerned).

This reminded me of McDermott too.
Until this Harkin operative discloses who gave him the tape, his apology is meaningless. I hope republicans are game to take em to the mat on this....rub Harkin's nose in it. Lordy how I've hated that guy ever since impeachment. No personal honor, no integrity...if Bill Clinton had boinked a buffalo in the Rose Garden, Harkin would have applauded.

This will make Rush interesting tomorrow. As has already been astutely observed, Harkin is a pile of...
Oh how I hope this costs him the election.

That would be so neat to have this cost Harkin! I would love to pick up that seat for Republicans! Cannot stand Harkin when he talks!

Wrongo, ML. It is NOT legal in Iowa to tape with either tortious or injurious consequence -- do note that not even 'intent' to tort or injury is needed for this to be a CRIME! ...
The law also states that taping under those circumstances is not illegal unless it was done for the purpose of committing a criminal or tortious act in violation of the Constitution or U.S. laws or for the purpose of committing any other injurious act.

My Dear & Steadfast Freeper, PBK Mom ...
Harkin is AWFUL. Here's hoping Ganske gets after 'Sandanista Tommy' who prefers a domicile near Fidel rather than actually in plain vanilla Iowa.
Tommy, it is not well enough known, often hugged Daniel Ortega. So, how about a non-Ganske funded RNCC ad with the two commies in their fatigue shirts -- WOW. Ditto, an advert filmed outside 'Sandanista Tommy's' Caribbean domicile juxtaposed against his Iowa post box. DOUBLE WOW!!
Ganske & the RNCC need to take off the gloves and strop this wiper-up of Clintonoid sink spume.

You're absolutely right, thats what the law says, but according to the article posted here (and I admit I'm too lazy to dig out the Iowa criminal code and get a definitive answer), the law carves out a specific exception for people who are participating or attending the meeting.
So even if a person taped attended the meeting with criminal intent (he plans to, lets say, kidnap the candidate after the meeting), he couldn't be charged under this wiretaping law if he was openly attending the meeting.
I admit tha that may not be what the Iowa code actually says, but its what this article says the law is.

Do you know anyone working in Ganske's campaign? I'm looking for a contact who can help distribute some bumperstickers in the state to energize the Republicans to vote in November.
I can send a bunch of bumperstickers that look like this:

Have I got this right? Someone taped a political meeting at which the most quotable thing said by the candidate or anyone was that Ganske was better for Iowa than Harkin and that they would attack Harkin while smiling? (Had to get to the 20th paragraph to find what it was all about.) The Harkin campaign then leaked the "explosive" transcript and some news bimbo actually wrote a story about it? (Got that in paragraph 3).
So, Harkin got nothing out of going public with a transcript which only proved that his campaign was up to dirty tricks. Curious.
Sounds like Harkin is an idiot and running a lousy campaign. Good.
