It's a lot more than a fox hunting tiff going on here. What we are seeing is the British version of the red/blue nation breakdown we saw in the last U.S. presidential election. A smug, arrogant, parasitical city culture with a monopoly on the media and education has decided to bring its enlightenment to the countryside whatever the preferences of the latter's inhabitants.

I've been quoting Claire Wolfe lately - Britain, too, may be "at that awkward stage where it's too late to work within the system and too early to start shooting the bastards." Oh, that's right, no guns. Well, no guns in the city, that is...heh heh...

I thought this might be some good inspiration for the Sawgrass Rebellion.

The problem in Florida and most of our encounters with the enviroweenies across the country, have a direct effect on the termination of Rural Culture.

It seems even Prince Charles is worried about this threat too, who would have guessed Royalty actually serves a purpose.?

Can we bump the Prince to the Sawgrass Rebelion?

April 20th

BOSTON — National guard units seeking to confiscate a cache of recently banned assault rifles were ambushed on April 19th by elements of a paramilitary extremist faction. Military and law enforcement officials estimate that 72 were killed and more than 200 injured before government forces were compelled to withdraw.

Speaking after the clash, Massachusetts Governor Thomas Gage declared that the extremist faction, which was made up of local citizens, has links to the radical right-wing tax protest movement.

Gage blamed the extremists for recent incidents of vandalism directed against internal revenue offices. The governor, who described the group's organizers as "criminals," issued an executive order authorizing the summary arrest of any individual who has interfered with the government's efforts to secure law and order.

The military raid on the extremist arsenal followed widespread refusal by the local citizenry to turn over recently outlawed assault weapons. Gage issued a ban on military-style assault weapons and ammunition earlier in the week. This decision followed a meeting earlier this month between government and military leaders at which the governor authorized the forcible confiscation of illegal arms.

One government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, pointed out that "none of these people would have been killed had the extremists obeyed the law and turned over their weapons voluntarily."

Government troops initially succeeded in confiscating a large supply of outlawed weapons and ammunition. However, troops attempting to seize arms and ammunition in Lexington met with resistance from heavily-armed extremists who had been tipped-off regarding the government's plan.

During a tense standoff in Lexington's town park, National Guard Colonel Francis Smith, commander of the government operation, ordered the armed group to surrender and return to their homes. The impasse was broken by a single shot, which was reportedly fired by one of the right-wing extremists.

Eight civilians were killed in the ensuing exchange. Ironically, the local citizenry blamed government forces rather than the extremists for the civilian deaths. Before order could be restored, armed citizens from surrounding areas had descended upon the guard units. Colonel Smith, finding his forces overmatched by the armed mob, ordered a retreat.

Governor Gage has called upon citizens to support the state/national joint task force in its effort to restore law and order. The governor has also demanded the surrender of those responsible for planning and leading the attack against the government forces. Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and John Hancock, who have been identified as "ringleaders" of the extremist faction, remain at large.

April 20, 1775.

The knife in the wound was twisted with the tragedy of foot and mouth and the Government's incompetent attempts to tackle the disease.

Even when the full extent of the crisis became apparent, it was clear to those in the countryside that there were other priorities in the corridors of power ahead of tackling the disease competently and effectively.

Why are they marching?

The background is the handling of the disease and the rise in crime.
The foreground is the effort to ban hunting.

Ah, now we know where all those good, stoic, strong minded Brits are. They're in the same place that ours were. There all the time, just silenced by the loud mouthed liberals.

Anne Robinson, TV presenter: "I am marching because all of us who live in the countryside must banish the bogus impressions created by a Government whose knowledge of rural affairs is based on weekend breaks in Tuscany and Provence."
(Fill in own Weakest Link punchline here)

You know, once we flatten the Middle East and we won't need Tony Blair's help anymore... the President should announce a political asylum plan for "rural minorities" in Britain. Would be fun seeing a line of fox hunters stretching outside the US Embassy for green card applications.

The Tories are doomed in Britain, I fear. What Labour doesn't take, the Eurocrats in Brussels will. Might as well offer a safe haven for them here in the States. You just have to ask yourself.. who should the US government be giving visas tp, Mohammad Atta or... MadIvan?

"I certainly don't want to diminish either the scale or the feelings of the people who are on this march, but you do have to ask the question, 'what's it all about?'
I have been involved in demonstrations myself. If we were marching against apartheid in South Africa, we knew exactly what we were marching for and what we were marching against. I believe there has been a muddle at the heart of today's march."

Alun Michael's comments are unbelievable. He expects us to believe that left wing protests are always politically focused?? What about all those anti-WTO protesters? Anarchists, transgendered, people dressed as turtles, union thugs. What BS.

A prediction: The Guardian and the BBC will do their level best to spin this protest into a Blackshirt rally.

Wonder when our Klamath, ?place in Nevada?, and the threatened farms (due to minnows) will be heard more than they are now??

madison,

ps. The OK farmers were heard by the Bush group I think, the minnows will not be 'endangered'

pss. Had some Coho salmon the other day...only endangered species I know I can get frozen and ready to eat ;-)

I missed the point of the article. What exactly are they protesting? I saw a reference to hunting. Is this a gun rights thing or about hunting specifically?

"But I do have to ask, how do they know it wasn't 407,790 or 407,792?"

To the delight of all, their final steps over the counting line were captured by video cameras and the images projected on giant screens above Whitehall.

They could see the tally constantly rising on the digital counter so they had a sense of contributing, personally, to the final total.

Did anyone read the article? They had film and a digital counter. jeeeez...

There is no difference here than what occurred in Seattle. You have the Anti-Fox Hunters playing shill to all of the thousands of real people who have a ligitimate gripe with the government and their free trade/over regulation practices. In Seattle it was the Anarchist shills grabbing all the publicity thereby silencing the voice of the majority who were hard working, honorable Americans who were losing their livelihoods to slave/child/11 cent wages in China and Mexico.
