Leftist Demonstration Plans (Houston, TX) - 26 September 2002 (President G.W. Bush)

E-Mail Regarding Leftist Demonstration Plans Regarding President Bush on Thursday, 26 September 2002. This message is left unedited except for deletion of miscellaneous contact information.
-------------------------------------------------

Hello, Everyone--

Bush may have changed the date of his appearance at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Houston, but he will not be able to avoid our protest. We are planning a spirited but nonviolent event.

We will assemble in Tranquility Park at the corner of Smith and Walker at 3:30 pm Thursday, September 26.

At 4:00 pm we will walk with our signs and banners (on the sidewalks) up Walker one block, then turn right on Louisiana and walk down three blocks to the corner of Louisiana and Dallas.

We plan to have our rally in the large sidewalk area at the corner of Louisiana and Dallas. The Hyatt Regency is across the street at 1200 Louisiana.

The rally will tentatively run from about 4:15 pm to about 6 pm. We will have a circular picket with people holding signs, chanting, beating drums, using noisemakers, and distributing literature. We will also have brief (3-4 minute) speeches from representatives of endorsing organizations.

We do not expect to have any difficulties with our application for a permit to assemble at Tranquility Park. Nor do we expect any difficulties with walking on the sidewalks. However, because the President will be at the Hyatt, it is possible that the Secret Service and the City of Houston may want to prevent us from having the rally at the corner of Louisiana and Dallas.

If we are legally prevented from having the rally there, we will have the rally as close to the Hyatt as we can get. If we learn of such a contingency before Thursday, we will send you an update by email. If we learn of such a contingency on Thursday afternoon, we will ask for your cooperation and support as we adjust our plans then.

Don't forget to bring 'hotel-style samples' of shampoo, deodorant, mouthwash, and such to hand out to leftist demonstrators. We may not see eye-to-eye on the political spectrum, but I think we can ALL agree on the need for proper hygiene.

What is the THEME of this rally?

Their theme is "I’m pissed that there is a Republican in the White House. Nothing else matters."

Lockbox: You're comment is very close.

The protest is concerning the potential war against Iraq. However, many of the people who have protested this before are the same people would were protesting the election of President Bush, so there is a correlation.

Since the visit is during the work week, turnout is expected to be light, but the media will be there. We need to be there too.

Sept 26th seems to be some significant date for the RATS, as they are staging demonstrations in California on that date too against the war.

FYI - the above statement is a reference to the protest organizer making a mistake himself last week when he sent out the email. He accidentally told them that Bush was coming on Saturday even though the fundraiser was already scheduled on Thursday. Now it appears this idiot is trying to cover himself by lying about it and blaming his error on Bush.

Anyone have any word about hurricane and where it might land? {I am a H.A.T. Freeper } I am in Los Angeles right now and my 21 year old son is in Lake Jackson, at my house, with three of our cats, and he would have to evacuate and take the pets with him. He has Tuesday and Wednesday off this week, that is good. I told him to gas up the car just in case. This freep event is on 26th, hurricane may be hitting then. GOOD LUCK to all and SAFTEY too!!!!!

BuffyT, I'm from Lake Jackson, and my gran is still living there. I really think that it's too early to tell where it's going to go, but if it gets within one hundred miles of Freeport I'm going to be taping up windows and bottling water, not protesting. ;) The leftists can get all wet.

Best of luck to anyone else on the Gulf Coast!

THANKS! I NEED to hear that it looks GOOD for the Houston area. My son is 21, but it would be hard for him to batten down the hatches, and drive with three cats in the car. He does have one pet carrier. I will check with all of you this week to see "what's up" with Isodore. We have been checking weather channel and weather websites, but I guess it is too early to know for sure. We were in Lake Jackson for that Tropical storm weekend of Friday the 13th in Sept. It was a WILD ride. There was an earthquake while we were in Texas, but no damage here at our place in LA.

We are in a conservative little town called Claremont, near Ontario and Upland. SHOCKED to find a conservative town, especially with all of these colleges here. At the Fourth of July parade the Republican club got a HUGE round of applause, the Democrat club got dead silence! My 18 year old son even noticed it. IT WAS GREAT!

BTW for the Globull warming crowd, LA is having one of its coolest summers on record. Usually 72 or 73 degrees here, cooler at the beaches, warmer in the desert (of course). Just chillin'.
