Over a year and a half into the Bush II administration, W magazine has blown the lid off the deep secret about the social whir at the White House under President George W. Bush there isn't a whir.
In its October issue, the New York-based fashion and style periodical features a story called "The Big Chill," about the lack of social buzz in Washington. Of course, most anybody in Dallas, Austin or Midland could have told them this before George W. ever put his hand on the Bible. If you expected George W. Bush the party animal to show up in Washington, you're 20 years too late.
Before the inauguration, media outlets from D.C. phoned me frantically wanting to know what the Bush social scene would look like. Like a mantra, I would repeat to each one, "He doesn't dance, he doesn't drink, and he goes to bed early." That is all ye know on Earth and all ye need to know.
"You hear a lot of people complaining, especially among Bush's biggest supporters," one Republican stalwart tells W of the lack of social life around the Bush White House. "This crowd is just very insulated. They were isolated in Texas, and they still are. It's a very tight clan, much tighter than their parents'. They had their wagons circled before they ever left Austin."
People, please ... you're reading too much into this. Let's go back a step: "He doesn't dance, he doesn't drink, and he goes to bed early." When he was governor, you had to catch him before dinner and not wait until after or he'd be out the door faster than Superman ducking a pass from Lois Lane. Wherever he was, the governor made a point to leave early to fly back to Austin so he could say good night to his daughters, Jenna and Barbara.
Fort Worth-reared Clay Johnson, Bush's pal from Andover and Yale and former COO of the Dallas Museum of Art, is on the short list with his wife, Ann, for private dinners in the family quarters. He is now White House personnel director, and she is director of the State Department's Art in Embassies program. Ann reports that Bush usually makes invites for these get-togethers at the last minute. "He calls direct, without a switchboard operator," Ann tells W.
Perhaps when he's whipped Osama and Saddam he'll be able to worry about the more important things in life, like making cocktail chat on the Beltway social circuit.
Exactly. Clinton needed the adulation. President Bush thinks it pompous - although I think he sees a need for it sometimes. Maybe it's just me, but I was really impressed with the humility and down-to-earthness that President Bush showed when he didn't find it necessary to be "hailed" every day. Says a lot. I guess most people never noticed.
Ex42 said on Letterman that he doesn't really wake up until after 5. He partied most nights. No wonder he didn't have time to go after OBL.
He also validates a lot of people's immoral lifestyles.
You clearly have not read many of my posts if you think that I believe President Bush can do no wrong. I have stated my disagreements with him freely......CFR, immigration.... But I do have a profound respect for him, and I do believe that God has appointed him to lead us through these dark days.......and I make no apology for that belief.
I'd also like to point out that, even though I didn't know it, you were insulting me behind my back before I posted to you, so your telling me to mind my own business doesn't have much validity, does it?
One more question......are you a neighbor of ours, do you go to our church, or do you work with my husband? Because I'm very curious as to how you know what he's like. I'm not sure either how you got your feelings hurt by my saying nice things about him (wherever and whatever that was), when the only people I talk with about him are my friends.......and you certainly don't qualify there.
Bottom line, peace (I won't patronize you and call you "dearie")....... you're completely wrong about me, and your insults mean absolutely nothing.
If you're ever interested in finding out the truth, hunt up my articles I wrote about my son (I can help you if you're interested.) But somehow I doubt you really care what the truth is.
Oh, yeah.....I did tell some guy once a few months ago, that my husband would beat him up for maligning my character and accusing me of immorality like he did........was that you, and is that what hurt your feelings? I don't remember his screenname. Other than that and on FRiendly threads, I don't talk about him.
You guys are the greatest!!!
(And one of the reasons I keep hanging around here, even when I get smacked around a bit.....)
Thanks!
Well, I never mentioned you by name. No one had any way of knowing who I was talking about until you happened to show up to get involved. I actually found it quite hilarious that you appeared there when you did.
I like President very much. I don't know what your current position on him is, however, I've seen how obsessed you are with him in the past and that's all I need to know.
Oh, yeah.....I did tell some guy once a few months ago, that my husband would beat him up for maligning my character and accusing me of immorality like he did........
LOL. No that wasn't me, but the story is hilarious. You told some guy on the internet that your husband would beat him up? Maybe you should consult with your hubby before you write blank checks for him? He may not be able to pay the NSF fee. Anyways, the fact that other FReepers have had problems with you should give you a hint. Bubye.
The ganging up took place over six months ago. I appreciate you trying to difuse the situation, however, there really is no situation. I don't like being pecked to death by OhioWfan and her cronies. I am definately not the only FReeper who is sick to death of it. A FReeper should be able to have a conversation with another FReeper without having numerous other FReepers butting in. Anyways, once the righteous OhioWfan stops bothering me I'll stop posting replies to her. Note that I didn't even mess with her until she butted into Miss Marple (who has always been a classy lady btw) and my conversation.
"unjustifiably rude to fellow freepers"
This goes back to a thread from six months ago. OhioWFan and some of her pals (she was always the rudest though) are most definately unjustifiably rude to people on FR. I've been the victim of her rudeness in the past and I've been attacked for not supporting President Bush because I didn't totally bow down in awe to everything he did or said. I have pictures of me standing on the steps of the State Capitol building in Tallahassee with signs protesting for Dubya. The sign said "Algore couldn't win his home state, now he's trying to steal mine!" I don't like yapping, rude people and I never have.
No, I've projected my dislike of OhioWfan and projected it towards OhioWfan. It's a shame that the "this is my playhouse, get out" mentality has caused numerous FReepers to find other forums.
Would you then target those men as being silly and personality driven? I don't think so.
Yes, I would think they were silly.
Look, I think President Bush is a great man and a great President. I don't know how else to say it. I just resent a group of people who sit around and attack anyone who doesn't get almost orgasmic over him. People who don't totally agree with the "kool-aid" drinkers position are told to "get lost". The fact that you've been accused of acting like this for two years should clue you in that maybe it isn't every other freeper who has the problem! Anyways, MM, you've always been a nice lady and I have no beef with you. In fact, I really don't have a beef with OhioWfan. I have better things to do than argue about one silly Freeper. Good day.
I also find it amusing that you are so concerned about my 'obsessions' when you are absolutely without a clue as to who I am. It hardly seems likely that your concern for me, Miss Marple, or any of the rest of us that you look down on, is genuine.
For the record, if I am obsessed with anything, it is my thanksgiving to my Heavenly Father for his grace and mercy to us in America.......not only with allowing us to live in a free land with immense bounty and blessing, but in having it in HIS will to give us George W. Bush, a brother in Christ, as President, after the horror of believing America had sold its soul, and was never to recover from 8 years of xlinton's debauchery and corruption.
I am obsessed with God's grace and mercy in giving me my family, my friends, and a life filled with joy and real peace through Jesus Christ.
When I figured that you didn't really want the truth about me, I was right, now wasn't I?
Oh, and, in case you overreact again....I'm pinging Miss Marple because I referred to her in my post to you. It's the courteous thing to do.
My classes are going extremely well so far, though one has yet to begin. (I teach in two different Universities....one on semesters, one on quarters) I really enjoy working with College kids, trying to make a postitive difference in their lives. There's a void in so many of their lives, and I want them to see in my life that I am an adult they can trust.
btw, if you are interested in reading about our fine young son, Eric, you can find the articles here....A Very Different Kind of Summer and here....A Few of FR's Finest
I'm sorry if your feelings were hurt so long ago, but it's on this thread that you've said some cruel things about a friend of mine. LOL, I still think you must be talking about someone else! None of your nasty words describe the ohioWfan I know and admire. I vouch for her words in her own defense on this thread and her character and history here on FR speak for themselves. I really appreciate hearing that you've decided to drop this whole thing. Thanks!
(((ohio))), I hope you haven't taken any of this to heart. You're a treasure! You do so much good here with your loyalty and defense of the President, as well as the friendship and kindness that you've shown to so many of us. God bless you.
Me, too! I hope it's for 6-1/4 more years!
Everyone would be much better off. I didn't say anything to Ohio until she butted into the conversation I was having with MM. I don't care if you vouch for her or not. She said herself that she's had run ins with other FReepers. It's no coincidence.
