He is the one who claims Norfolk as his home town. He has been here lots, and he even made a movie, kind of a documentary here. Years ago it was nothing to go downtown and think you saw Johnny Carson and later find out he WAS in town.

That would be cool! I think the only celebrity I ever saw (close up) was some aging soap opera star in a bowling alley bar. I did see Rush at Dan's bake sale and got Bo's autograph. Anyone else there?

I don't think I've said this today but I LOVE OUR PRESIDENT!!

LOL - I was thinking very much along those lines myself. How can so many people feel SO much love for ... a man we've never become personal friends with? A work of grace among us, for sure.

Just knowing how much he sacrifices for us endears him to me. And that's just for starters!

A Charge To Keep, indeed.

The new Al -- mature, gray temples -- he's praying this incarnation will work.

You know how some people get almost there and they have this programmed-in need to fail, due to bad stuff that happened to them in early years? We know Al Gore the Senior was a major El Creepo, fashioning the chip that fell off the old block into a fearful girly-man. Maybe algorelione is fulfilling this self-defeat thing by stepping up to sacrifice himself as the democrat in '04 who gets his lunch, dinner, and next four years' breakfast eaten by The President.

Works for me.

I ended up paying a library fine on it

Better a library fine than a percentage to gore.

Hmmm ... wonder how al reconciles his book made out of paper that came from < gasp > trees, with his environmental policies?

His honesty, compassion, and sense of purpose just makes you feel safe. We all know he is doing what is right in this day and time for America, not for what is good for GW.

"Mr.B." is a Nebraskan, born and raised in Ainsworth, and attended Kearney State Teachers College. He too is the salt of the earth. First time I went out there years ago, I experienced my first (almost) tornado, but it was close enough for me! Took me years to learn to say "Keya Paha" (sp?) to his satisfaction! I loved Meadville on the Niobrara, and want to live there. Everyone in Nebraska is so kind, it is a wonderful place..we live in Maine now, but part of him will always be back there...

The store in post 214 looks a lot better than the bubble gum / soda pop / comic books / Campbell's soup / dishwashing liquid, etc., store I frequented (Forey's) in a little waterfront town of no consequence, as a young child. You had to wear shoes to avoid splinters on the ancient wood floors. But it was a cool place for us kids. =)

I'm wondering if the 4th lady with Laura, Lynne, and Alma Powell is Mrs. Rumsfeld ...... can anyone confirm or deny that?

I could deny that I am confirming that, but I won't. ;-)

what DID doofus Gore major in anyhow?

I don't think anyone actually answered your question.

Al Gore, Jr. majored in political science at Harvard. However, they call it by some fancy name there, like governmental arts, or some such.

As we all know, he later flunk out of the divinity school at his mother's alma mater and then entered and later dropped out of the law school at his mother's alma mater, Vanderbilt University, I believe.

If it was frequented by you as a young child it could not have been of no consequence TO YOU as a young child. The older I get, the kinder these memories are.

Indeed, you are right. It was the highlight of our early grade school social lives to get to Forey's, by bike or foot. He was a barrel-chested proprieter, always wore kind of dirty white T-shirts and suspenders, kinda scary as he towered over us li'l punks, but he tolerated us pretty well, looking the other way as we sat atop the ice cream cooler and generally hanging around.

Well, me oh my, I've got a headache from moving my monitor to a 7-1/2" elevated stand so I could see it without slouching. Think I'll check out for a while.
