Tri-State NY NJ CT Freeper Holiday Party and Meeting
Saturday December 28th, 2002
1:00 pm
Special guest MadIvan from England
Location Tentative but could be Moran's (downtown) in the WTC area
Moran's
This landmark location, built in 1897, was formally an inn and later became St. George's Chapel during the Depression in 1929. St. George's Chapel catered to the local merchants and residents, which were mostly of Syrian Catholic descent. This area came to be known as "Little Syria." In 1979 the church retired, and the Moran family acquired and converted the site and began operating on December 26, 1986.
It also gives us a place to go to reflect on our Freeper BCM, John Moran who perished on 911 and possibly honor his family.

You can find the current ping list on my home page and I will update it with all who show interest.
Please let me know your ideas and suggestions so this can be a wonderful gathering. I will be emailing back and forth with Firebrand planning the party/meeting.
As the date gets closer I promise to ping you all back to this thread.

No, I was not. I have walked by Moran's often enough, but was unaware of the Syrian Catholic connexion. (My maternal grandmother was Syrian Catholic.)
Whether I might be able to go is something I do not know. December is a long way off and I may be in either Virginia or South Carolina by then.

My maternal grandmother was Syrian Catholic. Fascinating. Well, if you are in the area, it sounds like you would fit right in with the Syrian Catholic and Irish influences at Moran's.

Thank you for the ping. It looks like there will be a nice turnout. The location is great, and I also like the nametag idea. I've attended gatherings of other online communities, and we found that nametags were really helpful in getting to know each other. This sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun.

You're welcome. I'm partial to the private room, but not if it is too much trouble to arrange. It appears at this point that we will have a good size turnout. Nametags are helpful. Moran's sounds like a good choice. I may have to check it out between now and the party. ;-)

I've been on a couple or three tours with Brits and I marveled at the range of accents. On one trip one of the men was an MP and he and his wife spoke an English that was different. Some of the Londoners in the group described it as something other than Queen's English. (they weren't too kind in their description)

I may be too late with my 2 cents, but I think nametags are a GREAT idea!

Hmmmm....This sure sounds tempting....but will need to see if I could get time off from work....this is the busy season for working in a supermarket.
Would be great meeting you. Maybe I could carpool with someone....this country bumpkin would faint if I had to drive in NYC...LOL!

I am planning on attending, but it's a little up in the air. (My wife's family lives in Vermont, and we usually spend some time up there around the holidays. I'm trying to schedule it for a different time.)
I hope to see you there.
