Suspected Terrorist Arrested In Florida
Iqbal Munawar Arrested In Alleged Immigration Scheme
UPDATED: 3:25 p.m. EDT September 14, 2002
MIAMI -- Iqbal Munawar, who was on the FBI's list of suspected terrorists, was jailed as he tried to fly from Miami to Tampa, Fla., Friday morning.
Munawar and two other men have been charged with smuggling illegal aliens from the Middle East into the United States on airplanes through Miami International Airport and John F. Kennedy Airport.
The suspects are accused of making more than $100,000 in the smuggling operation, selling more than 1,000 false visas to illegal immigrants.
Miami-Dade Mayor Alex Penelas talked to a local television station about Munawar's arrest.
"Quite frankly, with all due respect to what we've been seeing today, I think the arrest of the individual at Miami (Friday) from the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list is probably more significant than what happened in Collier County because that individual is a real suspect. We know he has links to terrorist activities and that arrest may have, in fact, avoided something worse from happening," Penelas said.
The 40-year-old Munawar has been living in Brandon, Fla., on the state's west coast. The FBI tracked Munawar as he entered the United States two nights ago through Miami International Airport.
Binalshibinh, now this guy. Let's keep up the good work!
Hmmmmm...Miami to Tampa huh? Interesting that the three 'practical jokers' just happened to be heading in the same direction. On the same day. Nothing to see here, move on.

This is a nice catch, but so long as the focus on Illegals is strictly therough a War on Terror lens, we will remain unnecessarily vulnerable to incoming terrorists.
There are numerous wartime benefits to be gained from reducing Illegal Alien flow from all nations, and it's past time the Administration got to work on that.
They should keep it up and stick to what they're good at, which is catching criminals as opposed to becoming a domestic spying bureaucracy.
This week?
Wonder if he's a student of medicine or aviation.
Senator Patrick Leahy and his like-minded "civil liberties" panic-mongers here on FR need to approve of the methods the FBI used in apprehending this terrorist!
I mean, after all, we all KNOW John Ashcroft is the real danger to our nation: not the men who plotted the deaths of thousands on 9/11.
The real question is: did John Ashcroft cut corners to capture the terrorist?? If so, he must be released IMMEDIATELY, in order to preserve the sanctity of our Constitution. <\sarcasm>
LOL. I don't know, I tried google but didn't get anything.
Yep, this one will be worth another 1200 post thread over at DU. Several suicidal types over there are now on "watch" status.
The "incompetence" excuse is like steak and gravy: the gravy hides a multitide of sins.
