National Geographic October Issue Includes Close-up of Beast/Sphinx Map of Middle East
NGM October 2002; TG; KJB; misc. | 13 September 2002 | TG

Posted on 09/13/2002 8:26:16 PM PDT by Thinkin' Gal

Tonight I was admiring the sharp satellite topographical map of the Middle East included in the new October issue. Then I flipped it over to see what was printed on the other side. It is a typical map, but much more zoomed in than the usual ME maps. It is cropped almost in the same manner as the ME beast/sphinx map image which I have been posting here for a couple of years. The title of the NG map is "Heart of the Middle East".

Click above map link for reference.

Sinai ("thorny") = crown
Jordan = head and long neck

Deuteronomy 3:11 For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath (Amman) of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.

The Sphinx in Egypt faces its own 'giant' image on the ground, which is prostrating toward Mecca (that is, when the map is viewed in its normal orientation), falling upon its face to the earth.

48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.
50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. (1 Samuel 17:48-50)

Maybe You can help me with a question I have tried to get answered for a couple of years now.

I ask because of the "Remnant of giants" in one of the paragraphs.

I read that pagan idols and celebration days were brought into the early Catholic church.

I read in a completely different book that Nimrod was born on December 25th. I think it's widely accepted that Jesus was born sometime around September.

My understanding of Nimrod is that he would be to satan what Christ is to God. Not meaning son , but representitive as far as Nimrod.

It may not mean anything to a lot of people , but to me it seems an insult to celebrate our Lords birth on such an evil day. Almost as much as abortion , destroying Gods' greatest gift to us.

I hope You can help.

Ahhh, found it:

Bashar Assad

I'm not sure if Syria is part of the map-sphinx. It may very well represent the wing of a sphinx, but it isn't all that obvious. A territory of the giants - Biblical Bashan - is included in modern Syria, east of the sea of Galilee. In one of my Bible atlases Mt. Bashan is labeled also with the modern name Jebel Druse, Jabal ad Duruz on the NG map.

In any case, it appears that there is a long-necked sphinx image carved by the modern borders, and there is also a modern-day long-necked 'king' of Bashan.

Eons ago - I forget in which book - I came across a word study concerning Og's sarcophagus (Deut 3:11). The Hebrew word means a couch or bed, apparantly not the usual word for coffin. The other uses of the word in the Hebrew scriptures refer to a bed, or something like a divan. Instead of pondering if or why the Scriptures are 'in error', it seems more plausible that the idea conveyed, is that Og was merely resting... and will revive, at least in Spirit form, at a future date from the original writing.

But Mecca didn't exist when the Sphinx was built.

I don't know how far back the region near Mecca was populated, but no matter. The modern map of the Middle East didn't exist when the Sphinx was constructed. Thank you for your contribution.

Crazymonarch or 2sheep may have the info you are looking for. A few minor observations...

Nimrod was the founder of Babel, and also called a mighty hunter. Esau is described similary. Orion is called the mighty or great hunter, and there have been some interesting observations/theories re the alignment of the constellation [Orion] and the layout of the pyramids in Giza. There is a lot of chaff mixed in with those theories, so I really don't follow them too closely. The Hebrew word translated as Orion is kesil, which means fool or foolish. It is related to the word for the [winter] month of Kislev ("his confidence"), which falls in the November/December time frame. The meanings appear to be related in that the fool is obstinant, making wrong choices, having confidence in that which is folly. This would certainly describe Nimrod and Esau.

The original post takes 19 minutes to comprehend.

Coincidence? I think not.

If you look closely at southern Turkey, you can see the lips of Klutchkargo.

I saw the chariots of Pharr form in my refried beans last night. Then the whole restaurant was stunned to see a hand appear out of nowhere and write on the wall this riddle: "Eeni Menni Mina Mo".

Surely the end is nigh.

Blue Letter Bible generates temporary files, so I'd better not link directly. If you want to see all the references to this particular word (just 10), go here and punch in 6210:

Re: Deut 3:11

Companion Bible (which I just dug out of a trunk) suggests that is probably a tomb. That may very well be true, but the potential symbolism [of a resting Og] is not noted. I keep these books for their interesting factoids or maps, but I am skeptical of anything else.

Here is the note:

bedstead = bed or couch, but not the usual word which is mishkab. It is 'eres, and is exactly the same measurement as the tomb of Marduk in Babylon. The mythological significance of 'eres (Bab. irsu) is nuptial bed, or funeral couch. Probably = tomb.<

Easton's:

gigantic, the king of Bashan, who was defeated by Moses in a pitched battle at Edrei, and was slain along with his sons (Deut. 1:4), and whose kingdom was given to the tribes of Reuben and Gad and half the tribe of Manasseh (Num. 21:32-35; Deut. 3:1-13). His bedstead (or rather sarcophagus) was of iron (or ironstone), 9 cubits in length and 4 cubits in breadth. His overthrow was afterwards celebrated in song (Ps. 135:11; 136:20). (See SIHON)

Have you ever thought of putting all your research into a printed format (i.e. book)? I love the study of prophecy, but I have much to learn. Thanks again.
