Should Congress vote to support Bush on his stand against Iraq before or after the elections? Poll

This one seems like it is a foregone conclusion that Congress should vote to support Bush and only a matter of when they should do it. Okay with me. I think they should vote to support our president. On the question of when, it seems those favoring delay have the day.
Should the U.S. Congress vote to support President Bush on his stand against Iraq before or after the November elections?
- After the elections. This is a big decision. It can wait until November. 65%
- Vote now. Congress should show it's unified behind President Bush and we mean business. 28%
- Undecided 7%

I realize some FReepers may be in favor of going slow - certainly this is a big question - so perhaps this thread will be a good place to examine this. How much deliberation should there be in Congress?

If they wait till after the election, the struggle ought to be in full swing. When that happens don't they look a little silly conducting a vote about what is already happening?

There are two issues here. One is whether we should go slow for prudential reasons becaue the Commander-in-Chief decides that more time is needed. The other is whether congress should delay the vote because many Dems fear it might hurt them on election day.
Frankly, the second reason is despicable, and it's transparent that that's what's motivating little Tommy Daschle and his pals. They are afraid that a war vote might distract the voters from important Dem issues such as accusing the Republicans of breaking Social Security.
Therefore I think Freepers should vote for sooner rather than later. Once congress has approved, Bush can still delay if he sees fit to. We aren't voting to start the war sooner, but that congress should act promptly and expeditiously and stop dragging their political feet.

I think what is critical is that Bush has gone before the U.N. and told them to decide in days and weeks, not months and years. What are we supposed to accept from our own Congress, the they take months until after the election?
I see this a very critical. But, I think the Democrats see it as critical another way. They don't want this issue coming up during the November elections. Cynical, I know. But what other reason would there be for a delay. Interesting to see what Republican leadership in house will do.

The President needs to keep on them, noting at every opportunity that the voters have a right to factor their reps' position on this astoundingly critical issue when it comes time to vote in November. Little Tom Daschle (who was a hawk when Klinton was in office) merely wants to play politics. I firmly believe that the Democrats put their insatiable quest for power above the safety of US citizens. Daschle and his accomplices are egregiously dishonest political whores.
Chuckling, the president said he could not imagine being an elected member of Congress and saying, "Vote for me and, oh, on matters of national security, I think I'm going to want somebody else to act."

Bravo! Well said.

Polls are another step toward socialism because it gives the uniformed and ignorant sheeple's opinion the same weight as an elected representative. That's why we are a republic, not a democracy. If Americans were required to listen to various speechs and congressional hearings at the same level as an elected representative, then a poll would begin to carry some weight. Polls are another tool of manipulation and disinformation, and basically should be ignored by responsible elected representatives. Its THEIR job, not the American people, to make the decisions.
