[history]
September 12, 2002 -- WASHINGTON - Gen. Tommy Franks, head of the U.S. Central Command, presented his latest plan to topple Saddam Hussein to top generals this week, as war planning against Iraq intensified inside the Pentagon.
Military sources told The Post last night that Franks unveiled the updated Iraqi battle plan - which included a detailed list of targets for massive airstrikes, as well as plans for rapid deployment of as many as 75,000 troops - on Tuesday, at a top-secret meeting with the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

"Hopefully (for them), the Iraqi military will grasp their impending fate in advance, and get rid of Saddam, somehow." THAT is what I suspect could be the most desireable outcome... and not just in Iraq either.IMHO, they are very close to a power change in Iran, and we are hopeing that a move in Iraq will come about soonest. I am sure that even Iraq knows, that even with the current structure in Iran, they will not go against the USA, in a Iraq attack. The 'enemy of my enemy...'etc.. So we just might get a two-fer-one deal if we play it right.
At least I hope thats what we're doing.

The military now has in the region 1,500 Marines... That's about all they really need to to take Baghdad anyway.

At least they could have the decency to wear the proper flags on their lapels, you know, the one with the hammer and sickle on it. The sheep in this nation still wouldn't get it. I try to connect the dots for idiots all the time and they think I'm crazy. They just can't understand that some of our "elite" leaders might actually be interested in establishing a one-world government through the auspices of the United Nations and the degredation of the super power. It's sad that our population has become so uneducated and disinterested in topics of discussion that really matter.

I have also read elsewhere that the military might place a multi-million dollar bounty on Saddam's head, and give complete amnesty to any one of his soldiers/staff who does the work to claim it (if they survive the assassination, that is, of course).

Actually, I was going to ask what those 1,498 Marines were going to do while the other two were taking Iraq?

Sounds like ol' Niles was under the gun to come up with some kind of story about Iraq and he just plucked this one out of thin air or some other unnamed place, attributed it to an unnamed source and, voila, another masterpiece of pseudo-reporting.

Your post is not irresponsible but you could tell that the writer of the story just ached to be irresponsible and compromise a serious war plan.
Even his speculation of size of force is information that an enemy can parlay into intelligence. It can determine a list of scenarios based on numbers.
What they don't know is that the Post got the numbers right.

The secret is no one knows what's really gonna happen and that makes me very happy. I have trust and faith in our President and his generals. This isn't gonna be pretty, but will be a battle plan for the history books. God Bless GW and God Bless the Soverign USA! Screw the U.N. and the baffoon Kofi Annan...what a joke!

Good point.....I've seen "Miss Afghanistan" - Lord help those two Marines!

I also understand that they plan to drop Kathy Lee Gifford CDs on the capitol. That will make them surrender within hours.

That's about all they really need to to take Baghdad anyway. That is such a dumm statement.
We don't have to "take" anything.
Just find the factories and stockpiles and the means of production, wipe them out and leave.
Baghdad is useful as a target. Behave or lose it a piece at a a time.
. I say we start with all of Sadam's "palaces"...
You know, the ones he spent all that money on instead of saving those 600,000 Iraqi children who die each year?
To: Oldeconomybuyer
The office of disinformation is hard at work keeping Saddam guessing about our strategery. Not to mention our real enemies in Congress and the media...
To: Corin Stormhands
I was gonna say...this is driving the Dems on the Hill absolutely nuts! They'd love to get their beady eyeballs on anything having to do with the plan for our military.
