Howdy y'all...why the heck did we remove the thread "Untested Administration Hawks Clamor for War"?! I realize it was at the poster's request and it could be becuz of the claimed intelligence leaks, but there really wasn't anything classified that I could see. If it's at all possible, and assuming rw2's simply concerned about his own comments, can we re-open the thread with rightwing2's comments deleted?! There were some really decent conversations and meeting of the minds on that thread and I'd like to maintain access to them. Respectful FReegards...MUD

Meeting of the minds? Mudboy, sorry but I gotta disagree with you here. Not my call, but my vote is against your proposal to reup my thread on Iraq with or without my comments. My comments were not the problem. It was the superfluous untrue allegations against me that I somehow leaked classified information which I never have in my entire life and career were. Some of your friends were getting EXTREMELY PERSONAL. Frankly, I have never during my three years on Free Republic witnessed a more malicious lynching of anyone than I was subjected to last night by CWOJackson and texasforever.

I had no idea about the bad blood that would be caused by my post citing five general officers and their principled opposition to invading Iraq. My intention in posting the article was with the intention of ensuring Bush gets re-elected by avoiding the near certain PR backlash from the thousands of American troops that would almost certainly be killed in an invasion. I feel certain that if he invades, he will be a one-term President and the country will be suffering under Algore not much more than two years hence. However, if I had known that a personal vendetta would be waged against me like was ultimately done I would NEVER have posted this article. The thread which started off very civil and good had degenerated into internicene warfare. It had to be pulled.

Right, but those people were killed by 9-11 terrorists supported by Iran, the PRC and Saudi Arabia. There remain no proven links to Iraq. My argument is finish the war on terror with Iran the next victim and then address the Iraq issue once the war on terrorism is won. That way, we would be in a much stronger position to move forward probably with a lot more international support. If we invade, Saddam will used CBR weapons against our troops resulting in thousands dead and more wounded. That would spell big political trouble for our esteeemed President and I don't think even a politically savvy pol like him could recover in time to get re-elected on 2004. Plus, invasion will likely result in a double-dip recession due to a spike in oil prices and the $100-200 billion price tag reported by principal Bush advisor Lawrence Lindsey.

I pulled the thread at the request of the poster. In general, we try to honor those requests.

That said, I do not agree with rightwing2's estimation of the thread. I saw him getting hit with some rather personal attacks, but I also saw him throwing them out as well right from the start.

I think the discussion would have been interesting and valuable if both sides refrained from the personal attacks, but neither side should try to claim the high ground here.

The first portion of the thread was dominated by you being pretty arrogant about what you knew and the rest of us pee-ons didn't, and that obviously riled up the natives. Then, when you implied that the Bush Administration was making up evidence that wasn't true just to justify an ill-advised military campaign into Iraq, well, I tend to agree that you went over the line unless you were in a position to offer proof.

That said, I never saw anything posted by you that even approached the release of classified information and I never implied otherwise...and, yes, there were folks that got overly nasty and personal, IMHO. Too bad, 'cuz while y'all were sniping at each other, there were some interesting conversations about the projected losses to be expected in an Iraqi Invasion, Buchanan and his aborted plan for Fortress America and how it could have possibly shut down illegal/legal immigration soon enough to stop 9/11/01 from happenin', and a few other subjects. I believe what set folks off was a combination of yer apparent haughtiness in saying that non-Vets' opinions should be less valued than Vets and the implication that Bush was manufacturing evidence about Iraqi crimes that was untrue. BTW, I'm proud of the fact that American Generals are the last to be energized to make war...they know the costs of war and must be made to see the potential benefits.

Sure, I threw some barbs, but then again I had to defend my honor against malicious lies that I had posted classified information or had done anything patriotic when my intentions were to put America first and save the President from himself from the start. Well thanks for being fairly neutral in the whole thing. I appreciated your honest and forthright comments. That's all well and good, Mud, however, Our target should be the "leadership" of the repub who continually use very weak candidates to represent their position. As you know, this has been going on for years which is why I re-registered as a "delined to state" and no longer cast a vote for anyone just because they have an R after their name. I know I'll be flamed big time for this next statement, but, what the hell, I am not impressed with bill simon here in CA. With all of the issues dropped on his plate he should be ahead by double digits in spite of the dems registration advantage.
