Looks like there will be no more conservatives left in the senate. I hope you pro-Sununu squishes won't mind if he votes to raise your taxes, confirm a pro-abortion judge and support a treaty that will be a detriment to national sovereignty and independence. If I see any of you complaining about that, I'll just say, "Remember Bob Smith? He was the most conservative member of the US Senate. He was the most pro-gun and pro-life. He fought to keep Elian Gonzalez in America, he went to bat for the families of MIA and POWs still in Vietnam. He fought against illegal immigration, high taxes and bad treaties. He was one of the few US Senators who opposed Clinton's illegal and immoral war on the women and children of Yugoslavia. But you had to replace him with that Log Cabin society puppet because you thought Smith was 'too extreme."

Once again the old saw obtains: "No good deed goes unpunished."
However, since I left New Hampshire in 1984, I think most of Northern Massacusetts migrated to New Hampshire -- and it has turned liberal. My proof? Governor Shaheen and this primary that turned out the best man in the Senate.

I hate the Dole type RINO's as much as the next guy, but there is ZERO evidence that Sunnunu is a RINO. In fact, there is much evidence that he will be one of the most conservative men in the Senate. All you people calling Sunnunu a RINO, please post your evidence.

Very well stated. I still cannot believe that our champion, conservative hero, Bob Smith has been defeated especially by someone like Sununu who is so clearly unqualified to hold public office based on his disturbing voting record. Conservatives are going to have a hard time regrouping and finding new leaders, but I suspect that the imminent Republican takeover of the Senate will be a fleeting one as the Bush signed Democrap Congressional Majority Insurance (Campaign Finance Reform) Bill kicks in the day after the election and ensures the Democrap takeover of both Houses come 2004.
Almost as bad, I predict that if Bush invades Iraq, the US will suffer thousands of casualties due either to WMD or anti-ship missile attacks and the public outcry will result in him being defeated in 2004. So we have the prospect of one-party Republican rule after 2002 elections followed by one-party Democrap rule following the 2004 elections and for some time thereafter. If Bush does not invade Iraq, I predict that he will be re-elected--one of the more important reasons why I am opposing invasion.

I agree Bob Smith was a good man.
We will miss his pro-gun stance in the Senate.

I am a conservative , but I will not back a person who left my party , stood on the Senate Floor and called my party all the things the Dems. call us and much worse. If I could have voted in N.H. I would have voted against Mr.Smith. Go GOP.

Presumably you are just addressing those primary voters in that state? The rest of us didn't get a chance to vote.
To: Commander8
Oh, baloney.
At least now there is a chance to keep Shaheen out. But it won't be a shoo-in, but certainly chances are better since Smith is gone.

With Phil Gramm, Jesse Helms, and Strom Thurmond gone from the Senate next session, and now Bob Smith, who will stand up against the UN, anti-Second Amendment gun control extremists, and the pro-aborts?
Elizabeth Dole perhaps?
Dick Armey and Bob Barr will be gone from the House in January, so with the total number of true conservatives on Capitol Hill suffering such a large decline in one election season, look for more of the mushy, kinder-gentler-compassionate wimping out even if the GOP holds the House and retakes the Senate. Will Ron Paul be the next victim?
