Nelson Mandela: The United States of America is a Threat to World Peace
Newsweek.com ^ | 9/10/02 | Interview conducted by Tom Masland

Posted on 09/10/2002 4:05:41 PM PDT by GeneD

...The United States has made serious mistakes in the conduct of its foreign affairs, which have had unfortunate repercussions long after the decisions were taken. Unqualified support of the Shah of Iran led directly to the Islamic revolution of 1979. Then the United States chose to arm and finance the [Islamic] mujahedin in Afghanistan instead of supporting and encouraging the moderate wing of the government of Afghanistan. That is what led to the Taliban in Afghanistan. But the most catastrophic action of the United States was to sabotage the decision that was painstakingly stitched together by the United Nations regarding the withdrawal of the Soviet Union from Afghanistan. If you look at those matters, you will come to the conclusion that the attitude of the United States of America is a threat to world peace. Because what [America] is saying is that if you are afraid of a veto in the Security Council, you can go outside and take action and violate the sovereignty of other countries. That is the message they are sending to the world. That must be condemned in the strongest terms....

What about the argument that’s being made about the threat of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction and Saddam’s efforts to build a nuclear weapons. After all, he has invaded other countries, he has fired missiles at Israel. On Thursday, President Bush is going to stand up in front of the United Nations and point to what he says is evidence of...

…Scott Ritter, a former United Nations arms inspector who is in Baghdad, has said that there is no evidence whatsoever of [development of weapons of] mass destruction. Neither Bush nor [British Prime Minister] Tony Blair has provided any evidence that such weapons exist. But what we know is that Israel has weapons of mass destruction. Nobody talks about that. Why should there be one standard for one country, especially because it is black, and another one for another country, Israel, that is white.

I gather you are particularly concerned about Vice President Cheney?

Well, there is no doubt. He opposed the decision to release me from prison (laughs). The majority of the U.S. Congress was in favor of my release, and he opposed it. But it’s not because of that. Quite clearly we are dealing with an arch-conservative in Dick Cheney.

Nahhhhhhh, mandela is not biased. What a piece of ANC crap. Notice he, Saddam and Ritter all sleep in the same bed together.

Nelson Mandela should spend more time concerning himself
with all of the farm murders that people like Adriana
Stuijt have been reporting on that have occurred since
1994 (Over 1,000 farmers murdered) and the people
having to defend their homes using razor-tip fences
from the loosed intruders terrorizing South Africa.
He obviously learned nothing at Robben Island.

Maybe I'm wrong, but didn't Bush recently honor Mandela at the White House? If true, for what?

Yeah, like we really care what this boob thinks. Mandela was always the darling of the commies. So the U.S. is a threat to peace in the world? I suppose the radical Muslims are anti-war protesters, not suicide bombers.

Thanks for the reminder -- that seems to get lost all the time in the liberal rhetoric. IMO he was a terrorist himself but I guess that isn't politically correct!

The very fact that we are free and love freedom is a threat to Mr. Mandela and parts of the world.
We have a President that loves freedom and is determined to protect his people.
The people trust our President.
This is a real threat to the likes of Mr. Mandela.
So, Mr. Mandela's remarks are weak as water, who cares what he thinks, envy is spewing!!!

Nelson Mandella is a Communist [expletive with initials MF deleted]. It's times like this when I have to restrain the hotheaded, darker side of my nature, which wants to scream the 'N' word over and over at the mere mention of this turd's name. I'll settle for this lament: Why, oh why, oh why do we keep shipping so many billions of our tax dollars overseas in the name of foreign aid? If that jackass wants to see what a real threat to world peace looks like, let us keep our money here at home, and let the rest of the world deal with making up the sudden shortfall in available funds.

Unqualified support of the Shah of Iran led directly to the Islamic revolution of 1979.

Jimmy Carter's dumping of the Shah led to the revolution. The Shah was leading Iran into the modern world, but Carter was more impresed with the people's revolution, being of a socialist mindset.

Nelson Mandela, 84, may be the world’s most respected statesman.

This is the most pathetic sentence I have ever read. I wouldn't even wipe my ass with Newsweek. Not even if it had Masland on the cover.

Bravo! It was Jimmah's "concern" for "Human rights" that allowed the fanatics to take over.
Read the long thread http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/748191/posts
it details it quite clearly.

As far as Mandela is concerned, the question is how long
before the stupid communists in South Africa turn it into
another Zimbabwe. It is well on its way to becoming yet another toilet courtesy of the pea brained intellectuals that imprinted on Karl Marx in college and went no further in their
quest for meaning...

And Nelson is a gangster who should still be in prison somewhere. Robin Hood he wasn't. He didn't rob from the rich and give to the poor, he just kept the loot.
I wonder, did he include the foreign policies of his good buddy Clinton in his rant?
