Another compilation of avant garde architects that are proposing 99% complete BS!

Other than proposing very tall buildings, there is nothing to see here. The proposal with the giant wall building is extremely stupid as is effectively walls off Battery Park City from the rest of Manhattan. Think Berlin Wall. I won't even touch the big yellow funnel thing.

Rebuild the same design, only bigger and better:

Build them back, but 60 stories tall, since that's the height most are saying could be occupied. Then, above the 60 stories, add an extension that is hollow except for elevators that go to the top where another Windows on the World restaurant or observation deck will be. Make all of this look EXACTLY like the WTC except one story taller.

Here is what it would look like:

I have a better idea:

Three simple, religious buildings used for chapels,
One Catholic Church, one Protestant Church, one Jewish Synagogue on the WTC site.

A Plaque with the vicitms names on it, and an explanation of the horrors that took place, whom did it, and whom was behind it.

No politically correct excuse for the muslims. Islamic nuts caused terrorism and their sponsors (saudi arabia) should be forced to pay.

I vote for a single, circular tower rising 1500' and making a statement to all enemies of freedom:

While a couple these designs may be a little dopey some of them are far better than the uninspired designs the PANYNJ put through.

Some random thoughts on the above:

Whoever gets the gig to rebuild on the site should be an American and not a Muslim (not a "Muslim-American"). I know that's not politically correct, but it's an honest emotion.

The yellow thingy looks like the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine" meets "Star Trek."

The bizzaro-looking black deal that's shown last does at least capture a sense of extreme anger.

The broken-glass effort has possibilities if it could be toned down, and if the proposal wasn't to surround it with same-old, same-old boxy skyscrapers.

The "river runs through it" effort at least has some elegance, which is more than can be said of any of the other designs produced to date.

On the whole, this stuff looks like the drugged-up, fevered imaginations of Hollywierd set designers on a bad day.

The first six designs were an acceptance of the attack, and an apology to the attackers for daring to be better than them.

These designs want to memorialize 9/11. In effect, they are rewarding the attackers by creating a huge monument to their efforts.

What is needed is something to say that the attackers did not win, to render their attack impotent. All they did was kill people, not NYC or America. They are murderers, not revolutionaries.

Who would question the notion that whatever replaces the Twin Towers must transcend everyday design?

Eighty percent of the country?

A couple of the above concepts just might be worth thinking about. Too bad we don't know what any of the concepts ARE, since the architects were too busy getting off on their computer-aided-design programs to actually draw up comprehendable pictures. However, I think I can safely say that whoever came up with this:
The main feature of the 39 million-square-foot structure is a vertical memorial park called the Ascent, dedicated to reflecting and building on the experience of 9/11 and after. There are four ways to make the Ascent. The Pilgrimage is for the devout and involves a monthlong traversal of a difficult vertical path through a series of Stations. The Quest consists of a weeklong series of climbs up near-vertical faces, ledges, resting places, and camps. On the Trip, vacationers will spend two or three days among a series of platforms, lifts, escalators, interactive displays, hotels, restaurants, vistas, and educational entertainment. The half-day Tour consists of a rapid elevator ride to the summit of the Park, pausing at commemorative displays.
...needs to be taken out back by the Soprano family and taught a few lessons.

New York invited six practicing architects and one practicing visionary to design proposals for the site.

Man, I dunno, but that's one helluva job title, "practicing visionary." I'm thinking of changing mine and going for the big bucks. I wonder if recreational drugs are involved...

They should build the tallest tower in the world (>2000ft). Something like the Space Needle but much larger. You can go to the SkyscraperPage.com to see buildings around the world.

This is crap. Building replicas of the orginal would be a 1,000,000 times betters than these proposals.

Zapata's design is the first I've seen that heads in the direction of an acceptable solution. The river is impractical, and I don't care for the narrowing of the base. But as someone else noted, it is graceful and elegant, respects the footprints, and returns to a dominant height and an iconic position.

There was one interesting idea in the collaboration of architects in the NYTimes Magazine this weekend. That was preserving one footprint, while building on the other, a mix of respect to the loss and defiance to the attackers. Other than that, what a waste that collaboration was, proving that most architects are self-infatuated blowhard followers, with only a few pioneers. Lots of liberal mush, and the inevitable invite of Frank Gehry do his assembly-line signature blobs of structural poop. All kinds of wavy, unstable appearing, spineless designs, a tribute to deconstructionism and relativism. Quirky, freaky, and shock value, not strong and solid. Then there was that bastard architect who used the event to promote his marxist philosophy, wanting to slap some ridiculous design on the NYSE to "Highlight the destruction capitalism has wrought". He ought to be horsewhipped, along with Eisenmann for his shrapnel design for the WTC(pictured above). Yeah, that's real appropriate.

I think that one of the feelings about the design is that we just want our towers back. Nothing else will be able to fill that spot except for those towers, so I say build them again, only make them more beautiful than before.

Here's one New Yorker on why the World Trade Center should not be rebuilt as before. I had no idea it was just a big government boondoggle from the start.
