The Republican Party of Texas Platform has been MUCH in the news of late because it is a CONSERVATIVE document and, as such, VERY controversial. I thought it would be an instructive exercise, for those of us who wish to do so here, to go through it plank by plank and see where we stand on these issues. Pursuant to that, I will post ONE plank of the Platform, every few days and anyone who wishes to can state their views as to that particular part of the platform.
Today, under the sub-heading Preserving American Freedom we find the following plank:
Judicial Restraint - The Party supports the principle of judicial restraint, which requires judges to interpret and apply rather than make the law. We encourage the support of judges who strictly interpret the law based on the law's original intent. The Party stands strongly against activist judges.

Here again we have some redundancy as this could EASILY have been combined with the previous plank but as there is nothing in it I can disagree with it gets a 10!
This makes my running score to this point is 73 out of a possible 80.

and then delete my post refering to the error! Thanks a bunch! Bigun
I'd have to concur fully with this plank, giving it a 10, and raising my running total to 63.
78 of 80
See how easy I am to get along with?
My current score is 10 out of 10. I promise (and I am not running for office so don't worry about this promise being broken) by Monday I will catch up on the first seven planks.

When it gets down to the not-so-sexy nuts and bolts like the platform it's tough to stir up interest.
Yes indeed! I was hoping for participation on a much broader scale than we have thus far attracted.
If we could get FReepers from all over the country to participate in this little exercise we could learn a great deal! May even learn that this Texas platform has much broader based support amoungst conservatives than some would imagine!
Oh well! We shall continue with the exercise.
I never thought otherwise!
Could it be that you and I only have a hard time getting along with LAWYERS???
