Fun topic. Couldn't read all 400 responses, but I just KNOW I have the winner.

About 4 years ago, a correction was printed in the newspaper in the "correction" section. (That tiny little box that corrects egregious mistakes.)

I am paraphrasing here.. (will get the exact quote and newspaper tomorrow at work if you'd like.)

The statement that the school board budget was "in the African-American" should have read: "In the black".

Can't remember if it was a school board... but it was somebody's budget. It struck me funny, and have kept it in my desk for years.

Oddly enough the man it's based on when the movie came out was invited to give a speech at the DNC. They didn't know he was a Republican and would be voting such. Of course that put the cabash on the speech

The Last Supper

If it makes you feel better the movie ends with the Rush clone switching the wine and killing the liberals.

Has anyone mentioned Billy Jack? When I saw it many years ago, I thought it was the best movie I'd ever seen. Now it is embarrassingly, laughably, stupid!

Crimson Tide. We saw the movie at the Pentagon City theater and my husband like most of the guys in the audience couldn't stand it. The movie was ridiculous...the Navy doesn't have a band, a parade and speeches in the middle of the night and there are no 300 pound men running around in submarines.

American Beauty. Made me loathe Kevin Spacey. I wouldn't have believed that was possible.

I've watched the movie several times.

I don't see where you got the impression the black kid was absolved in the movie for shooting the younger brother.

The other reply covered mostly what I got out of it. That there are race hustlers everywhere and they will use you and trash you.

Also I don't see it as a condemnation of conservative beliefs. Rather it shows how people handle hatred.

I want to see Unintended Consequences(with John Ross directing) made into a movie.

Yea they often run "find and replace" algorithms on news articles. A while back I read online an article that showed a picture of "African-American South Africans" protesting.

Through the first 60 or 70 I saw no mention of one of the worst all-time...Dumb Bitch Squawk...uh, er...Dead Man Walking.

How can you guys overlook ANYTHING starring Susan Sarandon?

In Michael Medved's video Hollywood vs. Religion, I saw some scenes of the movie based on Canadian feminist novelist Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale that made my alternately laugh out loud and seethe with anger. In short, the premise is that those dastardly American Christian fundamentalists have won a bloody battle to transform the United States into a gray and joyless "theocracy," and -- among other frightening effects of the change -- women are officially recognized as chattel, complete with public executions for adulterous women (but not men, who get "handmaids" as well as their wives).

The only Julia Roberts film I have ever enjoyed was John Grisham's The Pelican Brief, which I saw for the first time on television after missing the first half-hour. I recently had the chance to see it again from the beginning. One of the opening scenes that I missed has Julia in her law school classroom listening to her prof talk about the 1986 Bowers vs. Hardwick decision that reversed an appellate court's ruling that anti-sodomy laws were unconstitutional. Julia quietly yet started smugly debating the prof, who stated the essence of Byron White's majority opinion. Julia dismissed the opinion saying, "Well, the Supreme Court is wrong."

I am not a John Grisham reader, but I doubt that conversation was in the original novel. The screenplay was written by the late director Alan J. Pakula. I didn't finish watching the pic -- I was too...ticked. Maybe on DVD I can skip that part.

I can probably think of more. This is just for starters.

Powder

That movie was offensive even if you didn't know that the director is a convicted pedophile.

Though I have not seen it, that movie Pleasantville sounded nauseatingly PC.

ARRRRRGH! Years ago, I wrote an entire thread about the premise of Pleasantville, written by a Clinton speechwriter, and while I vowed not to spend my money to see it in the theaters, I forced myself to watch it recently on TV to see if it was as bad as it promised to be.

It was worse.
